I was looking for something special to make my Valentine this year and wanted to take on a new, baking challenge. This was both! Make no mistake, this cake takes time (especially if you are a first timer like me! While this cake was not to my taste (due to the coffee component, to those with whom I shared, they loved it! The filling proved to be the most difficult part. Like others who posted that they had trouble getting the right consistency, I found a solution. I put the mixture back into the pan and add a slurry mix of cornstarch and milk. This did the trick and I got the perfect consistency! To finish, I sprinkled chopped pecans on top of the ganache and the presentation was beautiful. I would totally make this again!

I am SO disappointed. I just spent an hour and a half making the caramel filling, only to have the throw the whole thing away. It didn't thicken up enough, it was bitter tasting, and it BROKE! I spent an hour stirring and stirring but it never came together again. I am glad I didn't add the coconut and pecans to it, that would have really bummed me out. The cake is yummy - very moist and good, but I won't be trying this caramel filling again.

wow. This was the best cake i have ever tasted. I made it for my boyfriend's birthday and he couldn't stop talking about it. The only issues were that the icing was kind of thin and didn't really cover the cake, i just poured in in between the layers. the ganache worked as frosting for the sides of the cake though. It kind of looked like a giant mud pie and was surprisingly heavy, but that was just because it was so moist and RICH. The goats milk flavor and the strong coffee (i used starbucks offset the sugars so it is not overwhelmingly sweet though. Overall i would say it makes a giant mess and is expensive, but is definitely worth it!

This one lost the throw-down, right? The cakes were delicious and moist. The ganache was good too, but the caramel frosting was lacking. After 90 minutes of reducing (and with the pan reduced to half its original content, it still wasn't thick, so I double-checked the recipe to make sure I had not mis-read the amount of each liquid. I had read correctly. I chilled the caramel, which helped thicken it SLIGHTLY, but it never reached the consistency of a caramel sauce. The flavor was also a little off and spoiled the cake as a whole. It is a beautiful cake, and the cakes themselves were delicious, so I will probably just make my own caramel sauce from another recipe next time.

This was my first time baking a cake from scratch, though I have done a fair amount of baking. The recipe is time consuming, expensive, messy, and absolutely AMAZING! I made this for my family's Christmas dinner instead of our usual pies. They loved it, and all commented that it was restaurant quality! When making the caramel for the frosting make sure to let it cook down until it becomes thick. Not a cake to make every day, but worth the effort for special occasions!

A ***** ton of work. The cakes overflowed. The frosting never became caramel (waste of $. Had to get frosting last min from the store. That being said, the cakes were extremely moist and delicious!!! After assembling the cakes and frosting, it looked a little sketchy and rough so rather than just let the ganache drip off the edges, I used an offset spatula to spread and smooth the ganache all around the edges to give a great finished look! After decorating the top and sides with coconut and pecans, it looked so professional! Finished product looked and tasted AMAZING but I'd never make this again.

I love chocolate and this cake was by far the best one I have ever made or even tasted. I made it for my sisters birthday and everyone said it was the best one they have tasted also and wanted the recipe. It takes time but it does pay off. Thanks again Bobby!!

This was the most time consuming and cake I've ever made and well worth it. Definitely for a birthday or special occasion. The cake batter concerned me because it seemed so thin but the finished product was so rich, dense and moist...truly perfect. The cajeta was also delicious. I couldn't find goats milk so I split that portion with buttermilk and whole milk. The ganache was amazing...what a fantastic recipe....go Bobby!

I can't rate the actual CAKE, as I had a different recipe for that part that I used instead. That being said, though, the filling and topping got rave reviews from my husband and in-laws. I don't like coconut, but the ganache was awesome! Yes, it's time consuming and the ingredients not the cheapest in the world, but it was a great cake!
