The beans were not cooked after 8 hours on low. Yes, I soaked the beans overnight. Very disappointing. We ended up putting it down the garbage disposal. I did some research on line and no one recommends cooking beans on low in a crock pot. Not sure I'll bother trying this one again.

My husband and I were amazed at how this soup turned out! The turkey drumstick was a new thing, but I simply got one from the grocer deli and the meat literally fell off the bone. I also added frozen spicy brats and they were delicious! We also had to add a roux at the end, and I actually blended 3 cups of beans instead of 2. And now, we're going to get our second bowl!

I made this and followed it pretty true to the recipe. I've never used smoked turkey drumsticks so it was new and fun to my family. I didn't have pickling spice so I added spices that are in pickling spice and it worked out great.

I thought this soup would be just amazing but I was a bit disappointed. It was good, but was lacking something. Also, 6 hours wasn't quite long enough, the beans weren't done.

Friday morning before I left for work, I put this in the slow cooker. Came home and just had to finish it up. Had made Ellie Krieger's oven fried chicken recipe with fish instead - previously and used the leftovers to make "fish sandwiches" to serve with the soup. We really enjoyed it. Made deep dish pizza Saturday and had some soup again with it. Husband said this was the best soup ever. "The Foodnetwork Magazine" is really becoming one of my favorite cooking magazines. Thank you, Mary Beth

This soup was delicious. I put a roux in at the end made of olive oil and flour to thicken. I will definitely make this recipe again.
