For those that found the cinnamon overwhelming that is because the recipe is wrong. It should be 1 tablespoon for the oatmeal and a teaspoon for the toping. This should help. I did not like the dried apricots in this meal. I thought it was too chewy, but I liked all the other ingredients. I used a package of mixed raisins and I think this worked. It is way better than plain old oatmeal. Also, instead of 2 cups of milk, they used 1 1/2 on the show, not sure if this makes a difference

The amount of dried fruits and overwhelming cinnamon dominated the dish making the oatmeal's presence almost an after thought. I wanted a creamier texture but this was just too dense. Sorry, Paula. This will not be one of my best dishes.

I threw the whole thing out. WAY too much cinnamon. Quick-cooking oatmeal is disgusting. I've had much better luck with the Joy of Cooking's basic recipe for steel cut oatmeal. Re: the comments below, I never would have thought of this as a substitute for apple crisp. That's an entirely different game altogether. I'd put this in the "breakfast for a crowd" category -- but I'm never making it again.

I made this casserole one Sunday morning for brunch and was a little skeptical because while I like oatmeal, I don't love it. Well, I loved this casserole. The dried cherries, apricots, raisins, apples, and cinnamon made this absolutely irresitible. I ate it Sunday morning and then every morning for the rest of the week until it was gone. The leftovers It heated up really well in the microwave with a just little water to keep it moist. It was the absolutely the best oatmeal I have ever eaten. I plan on making it a monthly routine! Try it. It is amazing! Thank you Paula and Bubbles for sharing this recipe!!

I just want to clarify the ingredient list because this recipe differs from what was done on the show. I wrote down exactly the way it was done on the show. I think this is one recipe that could be done to taste as it is not something that needs leavening, etc On the show, Susan used 1 and 1/2 cups of milk, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of butter, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 cup of apple (originally she stated 1/2 cup apple then changed it to 1 cup, 1/2 cup pecans, 1 cup oats, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 2 tablespoons apricots, 2 tablespoons cherries and 1/2 cup raisins. The topping recipe on the show is: 1/4 cup brown sugar, scant teaspoon cinnamon, 2 tablespoons pecans and 3 tablespoons oats, dot with butter. They put the batter into 2 small heart shaped casserole dishes.

I made this today for breakfast due to rave reviews from a family member. I was very good. I'm not sure how someone could rate this at BLAND...because it's full of flavor. I did reduce the amount of cinnamon to about 1/2 teaspoon in the oatmeal and 1/4 teaspoon in the topping. The next time I make this I will reduce the sugar in the oatmeal just a little bit. I'm not sure how some below think this is not sweet enough (1/4 c sugar in oatmeal and 1/4 c in the topping plus all the dried fruit. I used steel cut oatmeal (which would eliminate the mushy consistency some of the reviews talked about. I will definitely make this again.

I made this recipe last night after seeing Paula's show last week. All the ingredients sound good but the end result is bland. Better apple crisp recipes exist.

I loved the concept of this dish, but the amount of cinnamon was overpowering. It actually burned the sides of my tongue! I will make this again, but with half the amount of cinnamon in both the main part and the topping.
