I cooked this for Fathers Day, and the dish turned out great. I used a mini grill and set the paella pan on top with spacers to let air in. Perfect fit! I kept a hair dryer close to help keep the temp high. Everything went fine untill the inlaws distracted me on the last deposit of lquid and I burned the paella in the center. The second attempt went much better. I would recomend using a little Japeno or other chilli for some extra kick.

While I have not yet acquired a paella pan, I did give paella a go on my electric stove top in a Teflon pan at my college apartment. I must say, this recipe and my results would make my spanish host mother very proud. Gracias, Alton.

I wanted to make this on my gas grill but a Hail storm (! only got me so far as cooking the chicken outside. I took it inside right before the hail started and put it on the strongest gas burner on high.

You can definitely tell when it needs more stock. I wound up using all the stock and did 3 9-minute cooking cycles. After the 2nd 9 minute cycle I kicked the gas down to half. After that I covered it with foil for 20 minutes and it was perfect. You da man Alton!

Very good. and other than a few easily fixed mishaps very easy for the first time out. This is a really good party dish that took less than an hour to make. I used a braising pan instead of a paella pan and did it on a gas stove top but other than that I followed the recipe to the letter and it is delicious. A couple of notes: The dish is borderline salty but I may have used too much salt. I would skip grating the tomatoes and use canned tomatos next time. Fight the urge (it will be tough to stir or turn down the heat if your are doing this on a stove top -- a crust forms on the bottom that is delicious. It is easy to see which areas of the bowl need more broth. This dish moves quicker than you see on the show so have everything chopped and ready before you start frying the chicken.

    As always AB great job.

This was really yummy. It was really easy to do. I don't have a charcoal grill, so we did it on the gas grill. It took a little longer but it was awsome. Only thing I would change is add a little more liquid, my rice came up a little crunchy. As always AB hasn't steered me wrong. Thanks AB!
