Loved the chili. I tasted it a little and thought oh my gosh this is going to be really hot and spicey but once I added the sour cream, cheese, and Ina's guacamole it cooled it down tremendously. Sour cream, cheese, and guacamole really enhanced the flavor of the Chili. I served it to my husband and some friends they all loved it! This is definitely going in my favorite box. I wouldn't change anything in the recipe.

Wow, this is a spicy chili. I dialed back on the cayenne pepper and only used 1/2 Tblsp, and it was still really spicy (and I love spicy food . I only used 3 lbs of stew meat, and I added an extra can of black beans (2 kidney and 1 black. I like more beans in my chili than meat. Other than that followed the recipe. It was very tasty, but keep your beverage close by.

I made sure I tenderized the meat until it shredded that was the only difference I only used 2 lbs of meat

I won first place with this recipe. The only changes I made was adding 1/2 cup of red wine and cutting back on the cayenne pepper. Great recipe.

I LOVED this chili recipe. If you have a high tolerance for spice, I would say follow the recipe exactly. I prepare it with the intent to serve others, so I cut the cayenne and red peper flakes in half. My favorite part is definitely the basil. I really feel that the basil is what gives it a very unique flavor. Also, it may be a little soupier than a standard, ground meat kind of chili. So if you want a standard kind of chili, this recipe isn't up your alley. However, I do not feel like it tastes like a beef stew as others have suggested. If you add beef broth, carrots, and celery to the base... well then you basically made a beef stew and it will probably taste like one! Just follow the recipe. If you're looking for a different kind of chili, give this a shot one time (before serving to others. DEFINITELY let it simmer for as long as you can and make it the day before serving-tastes much better when it has had a chance to sit in the fridge overnight. Enjoy!

I followed this recipe exactly except for the cayenne and red pepper flakes. I only added 1 teaspoon each, and it was still a bit spicy, which was good. I also only added one can of black beans because that's what we like. I took it to work for a xmas party and there wasn't a bite left!!! This recipe IS really a winner!!

I always follow a recipe to a tee the first time. That's how I know this deserved my 5 star rating.
Thank you Devon and thank you Ina for this recipe! Now, I prefer Ranch Style beans to Kidney beans. I've even added a couple cans of whole kernel corn and a tablespoon of sugar for a perk.
