I have made this a few times now. The first time I followed the recipe to a tee and found that the rice needed to cook longer than the barley did. Now when I make this I just use barley, no rice at all. I also add a few more seasonings to my taste. This makes a nice, hearty, vegetarian dish that can be changed easily to suit your needs!

This recipe turned out perfect and tasted really good! I used all of the broth, but let the dish sit for a few minutes to allow the cheese to thicken the sauce and it was a perfect consistency. The only problem I had, was that the rice and barley turned out a little hard. Next time I will cook them in the water for a little bit longer than the recipe called for so they come out softer, but I will definitely make this one again!

The flavoring was good with a little extra salt added in the beginning. Like some other reviewers there was too much liquid after putting in the initial 2 cups of broth. I had to drain some off and did not add the last 1/2 cup.

Delicious! I would cut back on the 2 cups of broth to 1 3/4 cup and leave out the 1/2 cup at the end if I did it again, it was too liquidy. Also substituted peas for Asaparagus since thats what I had in the freezer, was divine!

This recipe is fantastic. Be sure to be liberal with the salt and pepper at the beginning and you won't have issues at the end. I did add a bit more cream cheese than it called for and it was well worth it!

Really good dish.
I added extra garlic, mushroom and subbed asparagas for broccoli.
The only issue I had was getting the rice/barley mixture to be tender, took a little longer than the recipe called for, but in the end it all turned out great and I'll be making it again and again!

It was a little wet at the end so I didn't add the last half cup of stock. I also added extra garlic. Overall, pretty tasty! I would make this again.

I didn't think this was at all similar to risotto, but that is not what bothered me about the dish. I expected something rich (because of the cream cheese but there just wasn't a whole lot of flavor. I think I could have used a little more salt to umph it up, but still, I wouldn't make this again.
