Just made this for lunch, and it was a crowd-pleaser - even our toddler was gobbling it up! We didn't have quinoa but wanted to try the flavors, so I substituted some brown rice. Also had to sub dried cranberries for the raisins, which were also super tasty!

Hi Sheri,
Curry itself is not a spice - it is a combination of different spices. Therefore, there are different types of curry. As a replacement, I would suggest trying some of the spices that are typically found in curry that perhaps your brother does like. The ingredients listed in my current curry are:
- coriander
- cumin
- turmeric
- black pepper
- fenugreek
- clove
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- "other spices" (that's what is says on the package
Other curries would have different combinations of spices. . . :
Hope this helps you!

I usually attempt to make things I've seen on food network and fail miserably, but this recipe was easy and simple and came out great! I hope Aarti wins food network star because I really want to know how to make other delicious Indian foods :

I love to try new flavors and foods but my Husband is picky. I thought this looked great and I have always wanted to try Indian flavors. While I was cooking my son and Husband were intrigued by the smells. Even better was when they ate the quinoa. My son who is VERY picky ate most of it and said he liked it. My husband said it was very good and my 2yr old daughter ate it up too. I had to left ou the cereal b/c I didn;t have any on hand and I left out the raisins since hubby doesn't like them. I loved it too and it was easy to make, I will make half of it with the raisins next time b/c I would like that. What I noticed was that the longer the quinoa sat with the flavors the more flavorful it became. I bet there are lots of great recipes Aarti will show us with quinoa after she wins and gets her show.

I had never heard of quinoa until watching Aarti prepare it - then Giada featured it today on her show - so I decided to try Aarti's. I really, really like this! Easy to make - very flavorful. Will definitely make again. ....and as much as it always bugs me when I read recipe reviews where the cook makes all sorts of changes to the orginal, I admit to doing it with this one. I didn't have any All bran in the house, so decided to eliminate it and I had some chopped dates left over from a Melissa D'Arbian recipe I tried, so made those two changes. Maybe next time I'll try it the original way!

I was looking for a easy recipe to add Quinoa to my diet as it suppose to help with migraines and this is it. I used madras curry as I like things a little spicier! Thanks Arti

I'm looking forward to making this for my brother, I'm always looking for new vegetarian recipes to make for him. I'm not a culinary expert and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a curry replacement. It's one of the few things he won't eat. I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you...

This is absolutely fabulous. I couldn't imagine anything with All-Bran tasting delicous but this does. The All-Bran blends in with the other flavors and is undetectable as All-Bran but it adds a depth to the overall flavor which is fabulous. I made the salad with the dressing and it goes perfectly with the pilaf. It is also wonderful at room temperature. I took it to work and had it and the salad for lunch for two days after the initial supper. This is a great vegetarian meal, a definite keeper.

I don't like All Bran at all. It tasted like cardboard the last time I tried it in a cereal bowl. Then I tried Aarti's Quinoa! O...M...Goodness! I just went out on a limb and said DO IT when I was at the grocery store. Thank you Aarti! Who knew I could eat so well on Indian quisine...girl you've changed the spices in my kitchen! Peace, Diana
