I served this to the scariest critic... my mom... and she absolutely loved it! It was a huge hit at my dinner party and I can't wait to have a reason to make it again. It's incredibly easy and so great to make for a dinner party because you can make it in advance and bake it fresh when you're ready to serve dessert. I followed the recipe exactly, except that I made it in the morning and kept it in the bowl that I made it in until I was ready to bake it after dinner, melted the butter in the 13x9 and then put the mixture in the pan and baked it a bit longer because it was refrigerator cold when I put it in the oven. It was wonderful with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!

Amazing. This recipe is so simple to make- takes very little effort or time. It is inexpensive and very comforting. The ground cardamom adds great flavor. This recipe is a keeper.

Loved this recipe. I'm from New Orleans, so I know a good bread pudding.
This is a nice change from the typical heavy bread pudding with rum sauce and raisins. I used low fat milk to lighten it up and it worked well.
I LOVE Aarti. SO glad she won the NFNS! I can't wait to try her recipes each week. It so refreshing to see something other than American and Italian food being made.

That is the response I got to this bread pudding. Then my husband asked me to never make it again because it is impossible to stop eating. This is a fantastic dessert, comfort food extraordinaire. And I will be making it again, and again, and again... And Aarti, I rooted for you all along because I thought you'd be fantastic. You've exceeded my expectations. I love your stories and your food is to die for.

I made this dessert tonight after making some basmati rice and Aarti's Green Chicken curry. I've got to say that this bread pudding was probably THE BEST bread pudding I have ever had in my life. The flavors were so perfectly balanced and complemented the coconut milk so well. I ate it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and man oh man...I was in heaven. I am so happy Aarti won, and I cannot wait for Sundays to roll around just so I can see what she will whip up next. I have a request if you are reading these comments Aarti....Can you teach us how to make your version of Biriyani please?! Thanks Aarti! :

So easy to make and very inexpensive. I made a few changes: I changed the figs to dates, changed the sugar to 1/2 white and 1/2 light brown, and topped it with the pecans and coconut flakes. The seasonings were a little expensive, but I will have them for many, many more reciipes. I love the Cardamom on pork chops.

I made this bread pudding on sunday. My family absolutely loved it. It is so creamy and love the coconut flavor. So easy to make. Garnishing with cashews makes it even better. I used bagget bread as the recipe said and I cooked it for 50 mins. I loved the texture and smoothness of the pudding. I would definitely make it again. I love the way Aarti express herself. I love watching her.

The time it took to bake the bread pudding was nowhere near the suggested time. Mine was closer to an hour, and even then, it was a bit moist. I used regular wheat bread that was starting to get past its prime, but what worked best was to cook it an hour and then let it sit for several hours. Once it cooled, it absorbed the excess moisture.
I loved the figs, and I used pecans instead of cashews, which worked great. Overall, not a bad recipe, but had I followed the cooking time, I would have had a soggy mess. It needs some tweaking.

I made the bread pudding with a few modifications - golden raisins instead of figs and walnuts instead of cashews. My family loved it. I will definitely make it again. However, I might try suggestion below to increase the amount of coconut milk; I think a little more coconut flavor would be nice.
