I haven't made this yet but have read the reviews and the recipe. Pecan pie is technically a custard pie and would REQUIRE EGGS. Also the Maria cookies from the episode is 10 OUNCES. Hope this helps.

The crust definitely has incorrect proportions. I wish I had written the directions down from the TV. I have never used Food Network web recipes before and did not expect this kind of error from what I thougt was a reliable source!

As I was gathering the ingredients for this recipe I also noticed how it isn't clear how many Maria cookies are needed. I reviewed the video and compared it to the recipe and it is definitely more than 10 since she did fill the food processor. I figured 10 ounces of grahams will be about 2 1/2 roll pkgs of Maria cookies. I will be making it and hoping for the best.

This sounds awesome, but I think I'll use a pre-made graham cracker crust!

I tried making the chocolate pecan pie and had the same problem that sharon64 had. Idid use more Maria crackers. I used one and a half rolls and about a stick and a half of butter but after I baked it there was no crust at the bottom. It was like chocolate covered pecans. I looked on line, and all pecan pies have eggs in them maybe that's what it needs. Also it might be better with a reg. crust instead of the crackers. The pecans did have a good flavor but it did not hold up as a pie. I have tried other recipes of Marcela and they have all been very very good, this is the only one that didn't turn out right.

I just watched the recorded episode tonight and she says to use 10 ounces of Maria cookies or graham crackers not 10 cookies as is shown on the recipe. That may be the problem. I still plan on making it soon.

I saw this recipe yesterday and was so excited to try it today. My pies were terrible. The crusts were so wet from the 14 tablespoons of butter that they didn't bake correctly and they did not taste good at all. It was like eating chocolate covered pecans, there was no 'pie' in my pie crust. 6 cups of pecans and 3 sticks of butter was just too much and pecans are so expensive. I feel like I just wasted almost $30.00 and a lot of time on 2 pies that I need to throw away. I don't know what I did wrong - I read over the recipe again and again and I followed what it told me to do.
If anyone tries it and it works, let me know. I would love to know where I went wrong.

I am really looking forward to making this pie, but I'm not sure how many Maria cookies to use. It says 10 gr.crackers, but how does that equal the Maria cookies?
