Yum! This was delicious and I forgot to add the cinnamon & sugar to the apples. The sauce was great, my son and husband loved it. I was nervous about burning the sugar, so stopped boiling probably before I should of, because the color is a little light. Will make again, maybe for company next time. Thanks!

I watched this 2 weeks ago...and couldn't get it out of my head. I made this yesterday as a surprise for my mom & she loved it! I used a mix of granny smith/golden delicious and Fuji Apples. Added a handful of dried berries mix for some addt'l tartness...and some other winter spices. I found the caramel sauce to be most challenging! and had to be watched intently for way more than 7 minutes... and stirring in the heavy cream/butter while it was sizzling...was slightly difficult for me..it clumped a little...but put back to simmer and it came together just fine. I also used GROUND Cardamom...and the flavour was wonderful. I can't wait to make this again for my friends - Great Recipe!!!! Try it!

Didn't have cardamom and had to cook the sauce longer than called for to brown.Does thicken up after it cools and more of a praline frosting than smooth carmel but good anyway! Used quick oats and half white sugar half brown for a lighter flavor on the crumble. Only had 2 granny smith apples so used a gala for the 3rd and it was plenty tart! Added and extra TBSP of sugar to the apples after reading the reviews and glad I did! It was just enough! If you don't make the sauce or serve this with ice cream it would be too sour and would recomend half of the lemon juice or more sugar added to the apples before baking.Ate with the sauce and ice cream and it was great!

Delicious! easy to make. I had Fuji apples on hand so I used them. I loved the Cardamon-Vanilla Caramel Sauce. I will make this again because I usually have all the ingredients on hand. I have already passed along the recipe to two of my friends.

I didn't use Ganny Smith Apples (used regular Macs and so the dish was slightly sweeter than I like. I'm sure if I used Granny Smith which is a tarter apple, it would have been fine, so just adjust according to apple sweetness. I also would use more apples. The crumble was delicious and there was a lot for the amount of apple, I tend to like more apples vs. crumble. I didn't do the caramel sauce I didn't have all ingredients. But will definitely do this recipe again. It is so much easier than the apple crisp recipe I always make and my kids liked this dish more.

I made this today and we loved the crunchy, chewy topping. I agree with some, that the apples were a bit tart - add additional sugar would perhaps help. Had to make the sauce two times - both times it failed. Dribbled some on top anyway. The sauce seized up on me when I added the butter AND the cream at the same time - dumped the pan out. The 2nd try, I added the butter and stirred, THEN added the cream, but the sauce never thickened even following the recipe step by step. Who knows. Still a very yummy dessert.

The crumble was tasty but I had added more sugar to the apples. 2 Tbs. didn't seem like enough and the sugar from the topping didn't ooze to the apples. My biggest concern was with the Sauce---it was way too runny. Was a thickening agent omitted or some other problem?

This is the first review that I have written for a Foodnetwork recipe and I have 68 delicious ones in My Recipe Box. This Apple Crumble is the most scrumptious dessert I have ever made, and it was easy to prepare, to boot! I have to say that I did not even make the Cardamom Vanilla Caramel Sauce because I felt that it would be "gilding the lily!" Even after cooking, the lemon juice and zest is a very noticeable flavor in the apple mixture. It's a perfect blend of flavors. Thanks, Melissa, and Foodnetwork for helping to simplify my life and for giving me the ability to provide delicious food to my family.
