O my goodness! Outstanding! This was my first ever cake from scratch it turned out so yummy! I didnt have raisens but had some dried cherries on hand they added some nice tartness! I wasnt a huge fan of the savoryish icing, but they hubby was! I think even just some powdered suger on top would be great!

I was a little annoyed at first for some of the prep work. However... It was totally worth it. Easy to do... does take a little time to prep when doing this for the first time. This is the best apple cake recipe I've ever done. I am a cake decorator and baker as a side job and have done hundreds of cakes, this is one of the best. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTING! It is good with or without icing.

This cake is simple, very moist and delicious. I have made it twice - both times without the icing because, hey, I was lazy! The second time I sprinkled a little Turbinado sugar on top. Left the nuts out both times because hubby can't eat them. I used Honeycrisp apples because that was what I had on hand. The second time I used water because I didn't have apple cider. Don't go too crazy on the fresh nutmeg grates. Too many is too much! This is a really flexible cake recipe. Thanks, Anne!!
