Outstanding recipe. I made it just as written with the exception of putting just a very lite smear of Dijon mustard on one piece of the bread, and used a good french bread. My wife and daughter loved it. It is a heavy supper though. You don't need anything else.

Very rich tasting. Used smoked salmon we had smoked the day before and it was delicious. Next time I will make 1/2 a sandwich per person with an egg since it was so filling & rich. Paired with a large green salad.

Looks fancey, but easy to make. My 4 year old requests this for dinner- thats how good it was!!! Get out a griddle to make for a large group & buttering the outside of the bread makes it a faster process. I have ordered it in 2 resturaunts since I first made this recipe- they didn't stand a candle to this version!

This was fantastic! We bought sour dough bread and it blossomed from there to let's make croque madame. Husband thought it was outrageous. We had it with a sip of champagne and black cherry juice - lovely.

Easy and fun to make, made it for halftime for my guys and they were completely satisfied, they loved smelling it as it grilled, and kept asking if it was done. Never had so much attention during a game. Already had requests for the next game...Thanks Alex, I saw this on your "Day Off" yesterday and decided it sounded decadent and satisfying.

I can't believe how easy and tasty this was. The sauce that was left over heated up very well the next day in the microwave. This is a very filling sandwich too. I too put just a pinch of garlic powder in sauce with the warm up. I am sure I will be making this again and again. I used fat free milk because that is all I buy and it did great.

I made this last night for dinner, fairly easy recipe. OMG was this delicious, my husband was skeptical at first, "not enough meat" he proclaimed. After a few bites, he looked at me and said "absolutely wonderful, you can make this again for sure"...

Amazing! I added a bit of garlic to the sauce, but everyone loved this sandwich. I will be making this again!

A most delicious recipe that took us back to France. I surprised my husband with this sandwich for breakfast and it recreated our trip to France where he ate this sandwich on the lawn at the Louvre.
