I made a couple of changes...mostly in the technique...I put the ham and cheese together...painted on some melted butter and put them on a jelly roll pan in the oven (on high 400 degrees Then I made the bechamel sauce (adding in a touch of cayenne and the extra Swiss cheese. When sandwiches were toasted...I added the sauce and broiled them until brown...I poached the eggs for on top...and WE LOVED THIS!! Very Rich!! Blew my diet out of the water but we had a wonderful Brunch!!

Made these for brunch and they were outstanding! My husband (not a big cheese fan loved them as well. They were easy to make and assemble. The sandwiches are rich and tasty - I will definitely make again.

I made this today for brunch for my husband and I. It took us back to our trip to Paris, sitting at the cafe' eating Croque Madames and drinking wine! It was not a difficult recipe and we will definitely make this again. Thanks Alex!

I tried this sandwich last night and it was a true hit with my family. This is simply a delish sandwich. A bit of trouble, but well worth it! Important to use a heavy artisan-type bread. Also two of the guests were travelers that arrived two hours late; this worked fine. i just re-heated the left-over béchamel and made more sandwiches; this is truly a find.

My boyfriend literally said this is the best thing he's ever eaten! It was delicious, but kind of messy to make and time-consuming. My grocery store didn't have Gruyere cheese, so I subsituted half Monterey Jack and half Muenster. It was really delicious, I highly recommend it!
