This soup was just as I remember having growing up! The turkey is a great substitute for ham with intense smokey flavor. Instead of the yogurt topper, I stirred in about 3tbls. heavey cream which added a great richness. I definitely recommend trying it with whole grain bread, the sweetness is wonderful with the popping frozen peas.

YUMMY soup!!! Left out the parsley (because I didn't have any and it was still amazing! The smoked turkey was fabulous. The leeks literally melted into the soup. My 3 and 6 year olds loved it. We will be making this again! Super easy, cheap, and healthy!!

This soup was really tasty. I added chicken boullion cubes. Also cut back on the salt. The house smelled great all day. The smoked turkey was delicious. Will make this again.

I love split pea soup and was very excited to see the recipe in this month's issue. I followed the directions almost to a tee, however, I made a few exceptions. I added a little cayenne pepper, paprika and red pepper chili flakes. I bought everything fresh except for the split peas, which was a huge mistake. My peas are not tender at all, I think because I used old peas from the cabinet. However, the flavor is excellent. I started the crockpot up at 6PM yesterday evening and turned it off this morning. I also pulsed the soup in the blender some to help with the texture and take away the hard peas. I will still eat with the hard peas because it tastes so good. You should also use 1/3 of chicken stock/broth with your water quantity. Very good recipe, Please buy fresh split peas. Also, because I am eating the soup now, for breakfast, I did not put the yogurt in. Maybe later, but to me it doesn't need it.

This is very good soup, though I would have preferred leaving the herbs in, instead of removing them. I love the addition of the yogurt in the soup, but would have preferred chicken broth as the liquid instead of water.
