This was great, I made it Christmas day, it came out fabulous. In fact it was the only thing that did. Pickie people who didn't think they wanted any went for seconds.

Really, really good. So easy too. I had some left over and two days later -- just as delicious. I didn't have baguettes so I used some homemade croutons that I had on hand. Worked like a charm. Melissa ...thanks for 'keeping it real' and not making us run out and buy a bunch of expensive ingredients which most of us will not use again.

French Onion soup is one of my all time favorite soups -when I saw Melissa prepare this soup, I had to try the recipe. It was soo easy and I couldn't believe how DELICIOUS it is!! I cut the baguette into large crouton sizes, toasted it a bit and topped w/ Le Gruyere cheese. My husband (who is not a soup loving guy even declared it "Delicious!" Thank you Melissa for another awesome recipe!!

I had never tried French Onion soup before, but I saw a picture of it on a magazine and decided to give it a try. I let the onions carmalize all afternoon and then let it simmer for an hour or two to let the flavors develop, but other than that, I did the recipe as is. I served it with Small French Dip sandwiches, and it was delicious!!!

This is a great recipe for a new cook. Nothing difficult about it. Tasted amazing, looked beautiful, and was inexpensive to make. Best of all, only one pot to wash when finished! I could make this weekly.

My husband and I loved this recipe! I will definitely make it again. I didn't have red wine on hand; so I used drinking sherry. I also used dried thyme instead of fresh. I didn't think to reduce the amount of thyme because it was dried instead of fresh, but it still turned out fine for our taste. It takes time to cook the onions, but the recipe is so easy and inexpensive. I cooked the onions 1.5 hours on 3, which is medium low on my stove. They were starting to stick and brown the bottom of the pot when they were done because I didn't use a non-stick pot, but they didn't taste burned and deglazing the pot with the wine did the trick.

OH. MY. GOD. This was the BEST homemade french onion soup - it actually rivals the soup from one of my favorite restaurants! It takes awhile to cook the onions, but no biggy - set them on the stove, cover & forget about them...not difficult at all. I substituted Gruyere for the Swiss cheese, and toasted the baguette slices first, but other than that followed the recipe to the letter and we were not disappointed. Yum!!

I love my dutch oven. I love Melissa d'Arabian. And I absolutely love all of the recipes I have tried of Melissa's, especially this one. The idea of combining the swiss with parmesan on top of this soup is a fabulous idea. I also split half beef broth with half chicken stock. I think it was the 1/2 cup of dry red wine that made this soup taste so amazing. The only thing I changed was using corn starch instead of flour. I added the corn starch to the red wine before adding it to the dish. Another big hit!
