Luscious, sophisticated and different. Perfect with the tomato and red pepper soup. Found the drunken goat cheese, harder than normal goat, at Whole Foods. this was a fantastic Saturday night treat.

I love Drunken goat cheese so I was so excited when I saw this in the info of the show. This sandwich is delicious! I'm not a huge fan of onions but roasted shallots, who knew! The mayo adds a lot to this sandwich. I imagine a good quality gouda or manchego would be good but won't have the tang that this cheese has. This is not a creamy goat cheese, it's semi firm.

I was really looking forward to making this sandwich, but I have to say I was a little disappointed. It was good, but nothing special. I wish I had made the mayo the day before so the flavors had had time to blend. All in all I would make it again, but any other gourmet cheese would be just as good.

I found the cheese today at Ralphs. It's "winey goat cheese" and it's kind of hard like parm. regular goat cheese is soft and crumbly. I haven't tried it yet but will post back when I do! The sandwich looks and sounds amazing! My cheese says C&W. Maybe you can order it online?

I come from a small town in Hawaii and the nearest(and only costco we got is 200 miles away. Our stores really dont have much of a cheese selection or variety. Would there be an alternative cheese, perhaps regular goat cheese? Any suggestions?

With reference to the previous reviews, Drunken Goat cheese is a semi-soft goat cheese immersed in red wine and you can usually find it at Krogers, Farm Fresh and occasionally at your local Costco. I live in Virginia so those are all our local grocery stores. The cheese has a bit of tang to it and melts quite easily. I am not much on arugula so I used baby spinach plus a touch of sugar in the shallot mayo to make it a bit sweet (it added depth to the shallot mayo (not quite so strong if you are not a fan of shallots/onions. I loved the grilled cheese but then again, there are very few cheeses I don't like.

I saw the show from the beginning and didn't hear them mention doing anything to the goat cheese. You can buy the drunken goat cheese they described - although this is not an option if you live in a small town like I do. I can't believe they didn't mention that this was kind of a specialty ingredient - I wish they had given an alternative or mentioned how using regular goat cheese would change the taste.

The sandwich looked great, but I joined the show just a touch late, Gina says the cheese is Drunk? I was thinking when I pulled the recipe, I would have seen that he cheese was soaked in wine or something....please let me know what I missed, or if its just a fun title for a good looking sandwich, which I am going to make????
