For me, this was the best take away for the entire season (although I still want to try Jeff Mauro's homemade gardiniera (mine takes several days to make. Using avocado to play the part of the mayo was brilliant, I'm doing that all over now, made basically a tuna guacamole instead of tuna salad. Delicious! Can't wait to try swapping it on for the mayo in potato salad.

I just made the slaw, and didn't think it was very tangy. I added an extra jalapeno and lime for a half recipe, but probably could have added a lot more jalapenos, and perhaps more avocado and fennel. I only used 10 ounces of cabbage, which is less than 1/2 of a head, but it had way too much cabbage for the other ingredients for our taste. The flavors were all great, and I love that it doesn't mayo in it, so I just need to play with that balance. The half recipe served about 4, not 10, for the slaw.

After watching the show and hearing the comments about the slaw, I had to try this out. Personally, I think you need to go with a bag of coleslaw mix because I just couldn't get the cabbage to the bite size I wanted. Plus it would be a whole lot easier!! I love the lime and found myself searching out pieces of avacado to eat! I'd add more avacado if you like that, because you just can't get enough of it!! The jalepeno added a great kick!

Perhaps this recipe just didn't downsize well to fewer servings as I wasn't that impressed. The ribs needed much more liquid and the slaw was way to sour for my tastes. I'm thankful for the suggestion by r55ap to add sugar as otherwise the slaw would have been inedible.
