Tried this recipe, an although I was very hesitant about the apple juice, this recipe was very tasty. Quite unique with a bit of sweetness. Would definitely make this again.

My husband and I loved this mac and cheese. It is quite different and unique. While not my all-time favorite, it will be a frequent visitor to our table especially, I think, during the fall when apples and comfort food really come to mind.

This recipe was ok. I followed the advice about the apple juice. I used 1.5 cups chicken broth and 1.5 cups apple juice. It still was a little too sweet. Recommend using just chicken broth or something less sweet. I also did not use all the cheese it asks for in the recipe. It seemed a little much too me. I halved the amount of monterey jack cheese for a total with the cheddar of 4 cups.

I had to make a couple of adjustments to this recipe because I didn't have all of the ingredients on hand (substituted skim milk for apple juice and Greek yogurt for sour cream, but I thought the end result was very good. I would imagine apple juice would make it pretty sweet, but it was great with milk (I considered a combination of chicken broth and milk, but ended up just doing all milk. Oh, and I just used panko instead of crackers. I also liked the flavor that the chicken apple sausage added to the sauce. So...not sure about the original recipe, but I really enjoyed it with my substitutes!

I left the sausage out and cooked it on the side because my kids don't like meat too much. I also used jalapeno cheddar brats and ate it with the mac and cheese. Worked great and was very yummy!! I will certainly make this again. Thanks!

I already reviewed this after serving but after completing the job of throwing out the entire dish and feeling the pain of wasting so much expensive cheese, I have to change to one star and let you know that even leftover, this dish is a cheesy pile of glop that you should not waste your time money and effort on. Come on FNM!!

I have to admit when I saw the three stars, I almost passed on this recipe, but I'm glad I didn't! I used the review advice to use 1.5 cups of apple juice and 1.5 cups of chicken broth in place of 3 cups of apple juice and.......it was a hit! My husband who is hard to impress with food, said it was great! I froze half of it for a quick meal, and will be sure to make more as the weather gets cooler. It's a nice fall/winter comfort meal that is good for kids and adults.

My family loves this but I made the following changes:
Sausage-I used an apple-onion chicken sausage
    Cheese-Reversed the amount of cheese
Crackers-Used salted potato chips-this helped to cut the sweetness

Only 5 * after making it my way. I'm glad I read all the reviews first. I agree that per the original recipe it would be way to sweet so I made a few changes. Instead of the 3 cups of apple juice I used 1 & 1/2 cups apple juice & 1 & 1/2 cups chicken broth. Then proceeded with the rest of the recipe. It cut the sweetness, gave it the savory flavor it was lacking & helped balance out the other flavors in the dish. My whole family that ate it including my 4 year old grandson devoured it. Thanks for a great starter recipe & for the great pointer reviews.
