My favorite dish of mine, I also grew up having Rouladen every Christmas made by my Grandpa who came from Germany. Thank you for this. I like the relish, it gave you the same flavor. LOVED IT!. I make it every christmas, the family always looks forward to it.

YUMMY!!! I made this last night before we went to practice for the kids. Came home and it was done. My husband LOVED it and asked for it again.... he is my picky eater in the family...All three kids loved it also. I did all the prep work yesterday after lunch...made the steak and rolled it up. Put it on a sheet tray and stuck in fridge. Then before I left with the kids put it all together. Pretty easy...but next time I will also add 1 cup of beef stock. Thanks for a great idea!!

This is outstanding! I did not find the need to use the vegetable oil because there was plenty of fat rendered from the bacon to brown the meat and sautee the vegetables. Also, I added 1 cup of beef stock to the tomato mixture. I'm glad I did because it would have been rather dry after 90 minutes of baking. I used a flank steak and it was fall apart tender. I served with mashed potatoes. Delicious!

This was FANTASTIC!! It was no where close to being under 10 dollars, as my butcher had no flatiron steaks. What he figured would be comparable was a tri tip steak at $6.99/lb. I had him slice it horizontally into 3 steaks. I managed to get 6 wide rolls out of them. That made it all worth the $17, as it was 2 meals for our family (husband, self, 10 yr old and baby. I made the braised cabbage and potatoes as well. All were wonderful!! I have a feeling they will be requesting this meal often. Not very often that I see them that excited for leftovers!

I think I must have done something wrong. The taste was delicious, but the meat was very dry, and I actually undercooked it by about 5 minutes. My only guess is I may have over cooked the bacon so there wasn't enough moisture inside the roll of meat. I also made the cabbage and loved it!

this is a very good recipe. Thought i wouldn't like the cabbage, but my family said the cabbage was really good. The rouleden was very tasty, being an african american, german food wasn't my thing, but this i loved, and planning on cooking it again. thanks melissa

Watched Melissa making this and decided to try. I was skeptical about having bacon and relish on meat but the flavors we wonderful and mellowed in the cooking. We will definitely be having this again. Also loved it with the braised cabbage recipe. They were great together!

Very good. I've been making my mom's version of this for years. I'm not a fan of relish in my meat so I omit it. But I've never used tomatoes. This is a nice change. I use meat that's on sale. I've used a rump roast and sliced it myself and then pounded thin. Works well too. Instead of twine I use toothpicks, only because that's the way my mom made it. Great recipe.

My husband loved it, and so did the kids. The 6 and 4 year olds hummed while they ate it, scraped their bowls, and requested seconds. My 3 year old is still working his way through the first helping, but only because he can't eat as fast as his big sisters. :-D
The only thing I'd change would be to increase the amount of relish, but that's just because I ADORE dill pickles.

This is a very tasty recipe. I have eaten Rouladen many times in Germany stuffed with a spear of dill pickle instead of relish, but this is a nice variation. I used flank steak, and it worked quite well.
