Made it all including the hot giardiniera (let hang out in the fridge 3 days. It ended up being an awesome sandwich, but I must say that I wasn't thrilled with the Giardiniera on its own, but loved it and the peppers on this, it made the meal! If I had a complaint it would be the oil in this and I even did the Giardiniera 2/3 cup canola to 1 1/3 cup vinegar (my preference. Would and have to make again, after all we still have a pint of Giardiniera left! lol :

We love this recipe in our house. I've made both versions, and this one is a winner. I use the whole carton of beef stock/broth, and 1/2 cup red wine. That's enough liquid to keep the meat submerged while it's cooking. Even better, refrigerating it overnight, after shredding and placing in meat juices, allows for fat removal, and, of course, even more flavor. This is a perfect party recipe, for large crowds, and especially for upcoming Super Bowl.

This was awesome! Browned the meat in a skillet and dumped everything in a slow cooker on low overnight. Added enough beef stock to submurge the roast so this morning it was done and more than moist enough. Served with the roasted green and red peppers and also with pepperchoinis on fresh hogie rolls. Only wish I made a bigger roast as their weren't enough left overs for football tomorrow. A MUST ADD to your rotation.

I thought this was awesome. You have to have the Giardiniera it really makes the sandwich.

This tasted great. We saw it on the show and finally had a long day at home to try making it. It takes a while but was well worth. I cut the red pepper by half and the heat of the roast palatable for the kids -- the jus was still too hot for them, though. This will definitely become part of our Sunday dinner rotation.

I was born & raised in the Chicago area. The thing I miss most about my hometown is the great food, including Italian beef. This is the perfect taste of home! Awesome!!
