I haven't made a recipe of Aarti's that wasn't great. My kids are generally picky, but are open to curried lentils, chicken, tikka masala, etc. I thought I'd try this because it was within their "zone" and it was a huge hit. Tonight was leftover night and they were fighting over Aarti's meatball curry and turning their noses up at the cheese pizza. Pretty stellar review from some generally picky eaters. Thanks Aarti! This will end up in our regular lineup.

A GREAT,EASY twist on the old stand-by meatballs. Her recipes are so easy to follow and it's great to have choices besides Mexican, American, and Italian. I love this show and try many of the entire meals.

Okay, you should know that I am not normally the kind of person that goes crazy reviewing recipes or gets ga-ga over a celebrity chef. So color me surprised to realized that I can't keep my finges off the keyboard in praise of Aarti's recipes.
First of...she inspires me to actually make them (not just print them out and have them pile up conspiratorially in my kitchen junk drawer. Second...they are almost always even yummier than I expected.
My family was nuts over this one. I didn't have full-fat coconut milk, so I had to substitute the "light" stuff, and I had to use canola oil instead of the coconut oil Aarti recommended -- and it was still fabulous. My husband had three helpings over black rice then offered to put the food away so he could snag the leftovers for his lunch before anyone else called dibbs. I call that a triumph!
Will definitely make this again! And honestly, it's so good and easy that I wonder why I ever bother with take-out Indian.

Just made this recipe. Yum! It's easy and really tasty. I used the same ingredients as called for. It's a little spicy but over rice, the heat mellows out. This meatball curry recipe is definitely going into my favorite recipe file.

This is a great recipe. It is easy to make, especially if you have everything cut, measured, and ready to go (like you so often have to do with indian cooking! I would also omit the water because it was a little too thin for my taste. I am definitely going to use this as a curry base for other meats and make my mom proud!

I had to make this after seeing the show - I arelly enjoy Aarti and her recipes are so appealing. I doubled the recipe so we would have leftovers(I did not double the coconut oil and found that the sauce was a little thin. Like a previous reviewer I might leave out the added water or next time, double the meatballs but not the sauce. The flavor was very good and I did cook the meatballs in the sauce. I did not have fresh tomatoes, so I used a can of diced tomatoes withe green chiles. I used a jalapeno pepper, instead of a serrano and cut back on the cayenne because of the spicy tomatoes I used. I served it over brown basmati rice and it was delicious. I added some Adobo seasoning to the meat instead of just salt and used a garlic ginger paste in both the meatballs and the sauce. I would definitely make this again - it was a hit with my husband and teenage son.

this was absolutely delicious. I am a vegetarian so I made my own meatballs using vital wheat gluten as the base. Came out so good, my family wants this again and again

I LOVED this dish! I made it tonight and thought it turned out fabulous! I put the meatballs in the curry raw as she did and thought they turned out well. Next time I might omit the 1/2 cup water because I my sauce came out not quiet as thick as Aarti's looked on the show. But the flavor was outstanting!
I hope Aarti will help us learn how curry dishes vary by different regions. I believe she said this was a southern India curry. I'd love to try others from different regions and see how they're different in spices and preparation.
And I loved using the coconut oil. Don't substitute if you can help it...just the smell alone was worth it!
DELISH DELISH!!!

Very good... I used ground turkey and baked the meatballs in the oven then added to the sauce. I also used low fat coconut milk and let it cook down a bit. Sauce came out thick and very tasty. Love Aarti's recipes... love her show.

carriellutz: I'm not sure how you're defining "curry," but if you'd actually watched this episode you would have heard Aarti say that in India, curry doesn't mean curry powder - it's about selecting and mixing spices individually to tailor them to the specific recipe that you're making. You really shouldn't rate a recipe based on incorrect assumptions when you haven't even bothered to try it yet.
Adding to my review now that I've actually made this: The sauce is really tasty. The meatballs themselves could use a little more seasoning, and I think in the future I'd either bake them or brown them in a skillet before adding to the sauce. Definitely worth giving a try, just make sure you season the meatballs really well.
