I call this Indian Sloppy Joe. I made several substitutions but it was still good and I'll make again. Didn't have ground coriander, cayanne, garam masala or tomatoes so I used coriander seeds, cracked chilies, curry powder and a can of crushed tomatoes. I was great, next time I'll try it with ground buffalo.

After reading other reviews, I also added 1/3 cup of water instead of the full amount and it was just right. I liked this recipe with beef but I don't eat much meat, so now I substitute chickpeas for beef and double the tomatoes and frozen peas. Delicious with bread or brown rice.

This is so yummy! I followed the recipe exactly except for the coriander, I didn't have any. If you end up with leftovers, make stuffed bell peppers. Delish!! Thanks Aarti!

Loved the flavor. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it was too greasy for me. I either need to find a way to drain the grease (not mentioned in the recipe or use really lean ground beef.

I really liked this recipe, but my husband's review was there was a "spice" that took a little getting used to. I think I just need to start making more Indian food!

I loved this!, I added about 1/3 cup of water. It was even better the next day. I love Aarti, she has really made it easy to make Indian food, I was always so intimidated!

I love Indian food but my family isn't big on it. My daughter turns her nose up every time I pull out the garam masala but I keep trying. This recipe may just be the one that turned her around. I wasn't worried about the water, I just cooked it longer to cook some of it down. This also gave the spices a real chance to meld together. I didn't change the recipe in any other way. We scooped it up with warm pitas and really mopped up every last bite. The next time I make this (and it will be soon! I'll double the recipe so we have some leftover for lunches.

I was skeptical. This is not the sort of thing I would typically make. It sounded like Indian-style Hamburger Helper. But I love Aarti so I tried it. I followed the other reviews and cut the water down to 1/3 cup and I used ground turkey. I served it with warm naan and we ended up spooning the kheema into the naan and making an Indian-style taco. There was a lot of lip-smacking going on. A definite success. The only thing I would change next time is to add salt at the beginning as I'm sautéing the onions.

Unless you want this dish to be extremely watery/wet, I'd add just a third to half a cup of water/stock & two tablespoons of tomato puree paste; I had to make these tweaks to make it come out great.
