These were absolutely delicious and not very difficult to make. My mom and I agreed to make 5 different kinds of cookies, (she beat me by making 7 more- 13 different total I wanted to try these. When it came down to our cookie gift tins, I didn't want to give these up. I know Bah-Humbug! These will definitely be one I will be making every Christmas and more than likely months in between! Thanks Ina

Always looking for the right Christmas cookie and this one is it. Weston & I used Ina's frosting for her Coconut Cupcakes. Cream Cheese, butter, vanilla and powder sugar. Was a huge hit and everyone said it is the best Cookie yet. 3 thumbs up. Thank you Ina.

These cookies are easy to make, delicious, and versatile. In addition to the chocolate icing, other flavors could be used, e.g., vanilla, orange, lemon, almond, etc. I am rating it only 4 stars because I feel that a critical instruction was left out. We should have been told to place the cookies on the baking sheet at least two inches apart. Any closer and they could run together as they bake. Also, I would make two balls of dough. Chill them both in the refrigerator for 30 mins., but take out only one at a time. This is particularly important if the kitchen or the weather is warm. Otherwise, the recipe is wonderful.

These are excellent very easy cookies! I used them to make christmas cookies and rolled out the dough on waxed paper and they easily were able to be manipulated without tearing; I used 1/2 cup less flour because i was worried about how the dough was crumbling; After kneading the dough they were perfect!

These sugar cookies are amazing. A while ago I was given the heritage shortbread cookies as a gift, ate them all in one sitting, then went to order more and I couldn't justify paying that much for cookies so I ended up baking the shortbread from this recipe instead. I love these cookies. They are so perfect. They're sweet, have a great texture, and practically melt in your mouth. I've taken them to a few xmas parties this year and they have been a hit.

This shortbread is RIDICULOUS! I made it for my son's birthday party and people went crazy for it. I substituted 1/4 tsp vanilla and 3/4 tsp lemon extract for the teaspoon of vanilla and put in the zest of one lemon. I rolled out thinner than recommended so these definitely required less baking time (about 18 minutes. While the dough was a little crumbly, I just kept working it until a got it rolled smoothly enough to cut. Highly recommended.

Very good! After I figured out that I didn't put enough butter and the dough wouldn't come together. After the 3rd stick of butter the dough was like silk, so beautiful. I used a linzer cutter and put raspberry preserves and made sandwiches. Very good Ina! Thank you!

Delicious and easy (I used a Kitchenaid mixer and didn't even sift the flour, and didn't have the crumbliness problems that others noted. The chocolate is a fun addition, but when I make this again I will leave off the chocolate. You know when you eat something sweet then take a drink of something sweet and it tastes flat and somewhat sugarless? The chocolate had that effect for me, making the shortbread come off as kind of bland. It was still good! But the shortbread alone is uh-mazing! It should totally be showcased and not get shown up by a good bittersweet chocolate.

Very good recipe, must be cut 1/2 inch thick or they will become too brown. I baked these for 14 min and always reverse the cookie sheets.
