Very good, but not the best flourless chocolate cake. The cake has a wonderful, light texture and is not too sweet. The sweetness of the meringue balances out the bitterness in the cake. Unsophisticated palates may find this too complex.

Wonderful recipe! I love to bake and have another flourless chocolate cake recipe that I have baked many times, but this recipe with the meringue may beat it!
I baked it in a 10' pan with Kahlua instead of beer and it turned out beautifully!! I had so many compliments at the dinner that I took it to. It is well worth the time!!

Whenever I ask my husband what he would like for dessert he replies, "Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!" Nothing I bake is ever chocolatey enough for him. Until now. This cake was wonderful! I did not have any dark beer so I used 1 tbls Kahlua and strong coffee to make 1/2 cup. I also like big meringue so I used 4 egg whites. Fantastic!

Excellent cake!!! Moist perfection!!! It did rise very well during baking, and settled while cooling, but I felt that this was what these flourless cakes do. When the meringue was put on, I was so proud of my creation....it presented like a dessert you'd see in a high end restaurant!! Very impressive!!

Definitely worth the time!! I chose this recipe for my husband as a surprise for Valentine's day...He absolutely loved it! Will safeguard the recipe for future use. Thanks Food Network Team!

In answer to "karenleland", My cake appeared to be underdone and sunken in the center as well. However, I believe it continued to cook for sometime once removed from the oven. The center was uniformed once completed and served. Hope this helps.

What a fabulous cake! Especially nice as I cannot eat wheat. Believe me, you won't miss the wheat!!!! My daughter is a cake baker and was so impressed with the texture and moistness of the cake. The downside...? I want to eat the whole thing!!! Good thing there was lots of people...!

I made this today and I didn't have a 9" springfoam pan so I used an 8". It has been baking for 45+ minutes and it is still not done and the center looks like it has fallen. Does anyone know why this happened?
The batter tasted delicious before I baked it hopefully it will turn out and nobody will notice the center once I place the meringue on it.

This was absolutely delicious! I did, however, make a few substitutions. Since I'm not a beer fan I used Dr. Pepper in place of stout beer and I used semisweet chocolate in the batter instead of the unsweetened chocolate. It turned out perfectly. The only mistake I made was not letting the cake cool before I put the meringue on, talk about a melted mess. Oops : I guess I just couldn't stand to wait. Aside from the gooey mess that resulted from my own impatient self, this is now a family favorite. Thank you, Food Network!

This looked beautiful and had very rich chocolate flavor. A little too bitter for 4 out of 5 of my family members. I was worried about the unbaked meringue, but it turned out to be the best part of the dish. Might have been better with all bittersweet rather than the 50/50 unsweetened/bittersweet ratio.
