This is my "GO TO" Brownie recipe. I have not met a person yet who did not swoon at this brownie. Make for the family or give them as a gift. Simple and inexpensive. I make one small alterations: I use a large chocolate covered caramel bar instead of the squares.

I've made these several times, Fabulous. I've also changed the
german chocolate cake for red velvet and the caramel for marshmallow
crème, and they were terrific as well., I found it easier to dollop
mounds of dough on top instead of rolling or patting out. My entire
    family loved these.

I have made these brownies twice. The second time I placed the top layer in the freezer while the first layer was baking and I was preparing the caramal layer. This made it easier to transfer to the pan. I used walnuts instead of pecans and chopped them in fairly large pieces. I am a chocoholic and these brownies are completely satisfying!

Favorite recipe of all time! I make it whenever I can because caramels aren't always in season. My family loves them too. To put the top on easier I shaped it then cut it into 9 pieces then placed it like a puzzle on top. : : : : :

Love, love, love these brownies. To make the top layer a little easier, I placed some plastic wrap in the bottom of the baking dish and pressed half the dough out evenly. Then I pulled on the wrap and lifted it out. I put it in the fridge to firm up a bit and it worked out fine and was really easy to place on top during the last step. These brownies are definitely rich, so small pieces are the way to go. I sent a batch of these with my granddaughter going back to college and she said the kids went crazy over them.

These brownies are absolutely restaurant quality brownies! We all loved them for Valentines day.
The only recommendation I can give is to serve warm after they have set up. We also put a scoop of vanilla icecream on top ,,OMG FABULOUS!!!!

First off, how can something with choclate, nuts, butter, and nuts taste bad? The taste was for sure there but we thought they were overkill... only could take a couple bites... almost like eating fudge. When I have a dessert I want to eat the whole piece. Mine also came out a little dry in the corners and thicker ... did not look thin and pretty like the picture. There are alot better brownie recipes out there.
