Come on...the title says it all "classic American grilled cheese". It's not "whole wheat healthy grilled cheese". There's a place and time for all and sometimes you just need an old-fashioned cozy grilled cheese sandwich. Here it is. As for the scraps - wasn't a problem in my family. Kids and husband fought over them.

THIS IS THE SANDWICH ALL KIDS LOVE. THIS IS THE COMFORT FOOD FROM CHILDHOOD FOR US OLDIES BUT GOODIES. THANKS FOR SHOWING IT ALONGSIDE THE MORE SOPHISTICATED AND OTTA THE WORLD GUYERE SANDWICH.

BUT THIS ONE IS A TIME-HONORED TRADITION AND NICE TO SEE IT GIVEN IT'S DUE.

While I loved your tomato soup recipe, I just can't serve this version of grilled cheese to my kids. Whole wheat bread and REAL cheese are easy alternatives that I know kids will eat. The stars are cute but what do you do with the scraps? I think triangles on top of the soup can be a fun alternative (& not wasteful . Sorry Jeff.. but this one needs to be stepped up.. our kids are worth it.

Easy recipe that I have used for years. One suggestion, that makes it so much easier, butter the bread slices first, then flip them over and add the cheese slices. Also, I like to add sliced tomato, sprinkle with a little S/P and oregano. Delicious!
