Way better than traditional mushroom soup version. Huge hit last Thanksgiving, and definitely making again this year. Several reviews called the sauce bland, but remember, you can always taste the sauce before baking, and simply adjust seasonings as necessary. We added more bacon. I just got a better quality bacon and peeled off the fat after cooking, and before chopping (I prefer to cook the bacon in whole slices rather than chopping first, it's harder to cook already chopped pieces, and I just cooked the peppers, garlic and onions in the bacon grease, and added the chopped bacon back in at the end. I skipped the cayenne just because there were going to be a lot of kids at dinner, but I didn't need to add any more salt, since there was extra bacon. Another awesome recipe from PW!

OMG!!!! I have never been a fan of green bean casserole, but with receiving a huge amount of fresh green beans I decided to make this receipe, and it was AWESOME! MAde as directed, next tie I will probably throw in some mushrooms. LOVED it!

Very good recipe and a nice alternative to the traditional green bean casserole. I fed this to my husband and his brother as a test for a side dish for Thanksgiving and got mixed reviews. My husband loved the cayenne pepper but his brother did not like the pepper/heat. If making the dish for a lot of people I would go easy on the cayenne because not everyone likes the heat (I loved it though. Also, they both did not like the fatty parts of the bacon that made it into the dish. I didn't either, but the bacon gives great flavor. I also increased the bacon amount based on previous reviews and the flavor came through great. I think I may make it again with Canadian Bacon or Ham... maybe it will come out the same but less fatty parts and less chance to bite down on fat/gristle (gross. Overall, this dish has great flavor and I will make it again! Thanks, Ree!

This was a wonderful recipe! I have an abundance of fresh green beans right now, and this was a real family hit. It was much superior to the standard canned green bean version. I split the recipe between 2 8 x 8 pans, and was able to take a pot luck offering to my folks for dinner.

Awesome. Made this recipe using mild cheddar and 2% milk it turned out fine. The Panko crumbs we used were "plain" so I just seasoned them on my own. I would double the bacon and maybe use fresh parmesan on the top right before serving. It was so good the entire pan was gone!!!!A new favorite in our house. Way better than the old fashioned way, like my mom used to make.

I made a half batch of this and it was outstanding! I cheated and used canned green beans because I had them on hand, and it was still delicious. I made a couple of other minor changes based on the comments of others. I added an extra strip of bacon, I used extra sharp cheddar cheese (Cabot's "seriously sharp", and I "seasoned to taste." I did cut the fat a lot by using 1% milk rather than the same volume of milk and half and half, and everything came out fine. The sauce was a bit thin when it came out of the oven, but it was fine by the time it was plated and it cooled a little. If it's too thin, I'd suggest just adding a bit more cheese. I found this to be excellent, and I will definitely make it again, although I may cut the size even again.

As much as I would like to this receipe looked better than it tasted. I followed it exactly and when it was finished baking we all thought wow. But, it wasn't horrible but very little flavor and not one of Ree's best. Sorry but I just have to post so others know what is coming. Again, not horrible but really not worth it.
