I never take the time to review recipes but this cake turned out so horrible that I'm taking the time. It was an absolute flop. It came out super flat and dense. I will never make this cake again. I followed the recipe to a tee. I've had way better cakes.

I Love this cake and have made it 3 times so far. But I'm with Spoon Ala Hum about the baking times. Last time I baked it, I kept adding more time and it was a little dryer than I wanted.
Spoon Ala Hum's Question: And, do all four 9" pans go into the oven at the same time? Mine took longer than 20 minutes to cook

This is the most amazing and consistent chocolate cake. I make no less than 2 cakes a month for family and friends birthdays and this is by far the best cake I have ever made.

Amazing - new favorite!! Made into cupcakes - perfectly moist, great chocolate flavor. I used 4 tbsp milk choc cocoa and 4 tbsp dark chocolate cocoa. A big hit - will definitely use this recipe for our next chocolate birthday layer cake. Cake is great on it's own without frosting - absolutely yummy!

So so so yummy!!!!!!!!! I can't believe I made this four layer decadent cake! It was almost as easy as the website says it is, and much easier than probably any other recipe!
A couple of things... be sure to mix the chocolate mixture into the dry ingredients VERY WELL.. I got a couple of dry white flour spots in my cake even though i thought i mixed thoroughly.
And, do all four 9" pans go into the oven at the same time? Mine took longer than 20 minutes to cook, but its still worth it and the entire process took me under 2 1/2 hours. Not bad for my first time making anything other than a sheet cake!

Awesome recipe! I have not even put the icing on the cake yet and the cake is delicious. It is very moist and flavorful! I can't wait to taste it with the icing. It is cooling as I am writing this review. I decided to try the recipe based on the reviews and my son loves chocolate so this is his Valentine's surprise. I can tell by the taste of the icing that it not sweet so I made two batches, one with the semi-chocolate and one with milk chocolate. I did do half of the recipe. Keep up the good work Ree! Motivation for mother's!
