Good eating. I figured Trish's Dad had it right, so I made the recipe exactly as written. My whole family loved it. My wife said it was so good it didn't need biscuits with it. My daughter had me package up a quart to take home. The only bad thing was we pretty much finished the pot. Now I will have to make another batch.

My husband loves Brunswick stew and always wanted me to make it. I tried this recipe and was very easy to prepare. My family loved the results! My husband couldn't get enough of it and he raved about it. Thanks Trisha for sharing your daddy's recipe!

Very tasty. Quite a bit of prep required, but not difficult. I already had some leftover crock pot-cooked beef and poached chicken. Did not have portk, so used some pork sausage which I cooked in the potato water after removing the potatoes. I think it would be even better with the pork roast.
I like some texture to food, so I left some of the potatoes in small chunks and did not process the corn. I would make this again.

I love this recipe, but I grew up with calling this smoother texture as "BBQ Hash" and the chunkier version as Brunswick Stew. I'm giving this a 5-star because it is a wonderful basic recipe that you can tweak to your palette. And I did tweak it to my spicer palette. I added Tabasco chipotle sauce as well as a bit of spicy BBQ sauce and upped the cayene to keep it from being too sweet. I made this for a tailgate and it disappeared quickly. Thanks, Trisha!

Here's the thing about traditional family recipes - we have fondness and comfort from food we are raised on. The family recipe may not be someone elses preference, but to that family, the traditional recipe reigns supreme over anyone elses rendition of the dish. This stew might be more of an aquired taste for some, since the texture and color seems to be a problem, based on many of the comments. And the flavor appears to be to sweet for many. Seems like most of us are used to chunky stews, and this recipe is puree'd with the food all mashed up together. I loved the stew, especially for dipping corn bread or biscuits in! Normally, I'm not sure I would have tried this recipe, but I kept an open mind since Trisha is my favorite country singer/performer!

This was most delicious and we liked the smooth texture. I think it's just a matter of personal taste as to having it smooth or with some texture.

We smoked all the meat, in a smoker. This stew is fantastic.

I'd never had Brunswick Stew before, so I was really excited about trying this recipe after watching the show. I'm afraid it's just not for me! The texture was very unappealing, the color was a bit odd and unattractive, and I really didn't care for the taste, either. I reluctantly threw the whole mess away when the whole family refused to eat it after the initial tasting. Sorry, Trisha! Love you, but not so much this recipe!
