I can't honestly review this recipe. Like at least one other reviewer, my onions didn't cook after 1 1/2 hours in the oven, first at 350, then cranked up to 400. The onions were hard and the bacon still raw. I will try to salvage them tonight by cooking some more. If I get a good result, I will post a revised review. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

This so sweet. Loved onions anyway but never thought of doing them this. Will make this over and over!

I don't know if I am just partial to Vidalia onions because I'm from Georgia or not but I don't think you can use any other onion...These are just wonderful and have always turned out for me.Love em

Wow! Amazingly tasty! I agree with Bluesatin, the applewood smoked bacon really adds the perfect flavor. Thanks for that tip and thanks for another amazing recipe, Trisha! Give Uncle Wilson a big ole hug.

These are amazing!! Even the non onion eaters devoured them. I always get my bacon fresh from the butcher & if you can get applewood smoked that just takes the flavor to another level. Mmmmm

My family loved these!!! They were a big hit! The onions were soft and tender and the bacon was juicy and was a good complement to the sweet onion! My favorite part was the bacon grease and butter plus the juice from the onions! Dipping the onion and bacon into that hit the spot! Yum!!!!

I must have done something wrong. I could only get Walla Walla (sweet Onions and they were the size of a softball. I cooked for 1 hour in the oven and on highest rack in grill for another 40 minutes. The bacon was undercooked, the butter turned to watery mess, the onions not quite done. Uncle Wilson looks like a great guy - I sure wish this would have worked. I'll got back to good old yellow onions cooked in the microwave. Easier and better

Delicious! Last time I fixed these, I forgot to thaw bacon. I put about 2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules in the core and topped with 1 T. butter. Tasted just like French Onion soup!
