I made this recipe and the dough went together perfectly. I did use my Kitchenaid mixer and I make bread regulary that way. It was a beautiful dough and the directions were perfect. I made the hot dog with the cheesy sauce it was great. I'll make this again. Love Jeff's show he has a winning personality.

Incredible! They are fantastic right out of the oven (I sampled and if my family was home right now it would be hard to make them last until dinner! Can't wait to try them totally cool as is suggested. This is rated as difficult. I disagree completely, especially if you have a stand mixer with dough hook. The hardest part is waiting for the water to boil. The recipe is straightforward and probably the easiest yeast dough recipe I have made. I do have two thoughts. First, I am planning on using these with brats. We like a more even ratio of hot dog or brat to bun so I divided into ten and they are still too big, next time I will divide into sixteen. If you like a bigger bun or want a large sandwich roll, do the eight or ten. Also, I did not use nearly as many sheet pans as the recipe calls for. I used two, each with one sheet of parchment. I took the rolls off, boiled and put them back on the same sheet with no problem at all.

I'm not sure why people have had a hard time with this recipe. I thought it was fantastic and super easy! I am making it again today and I am going to try making bread bowls with it! Last time I made it, I ate two of the rolls warm out of the oven! Love it!!

I agree, these are amazing. First time through did not work, glad I persevered. The first batch of dough was completely dry (might be our elevation or type of flour?, so decided to reduce flour by 1/2 cup. Perfect!!. I could not stop eating them. Going to make mini-sub sandwiches for lunches, us a dip for soups, I think the list will be endless.
I must say I am from Canada and only get to see his show once a week, at first I was skeptical about watching as the show was so different than other ones, now I am a fan for life. He is so adorable to watch and makes food that 1 we can find the ingredients 2 great instructions, easy and usually not time consuming 3 family/kid friendly. Could keep going on but instead AAA+ Jeff!

Oh my gosh, these are AMAZING!!!! So worth the efforts. We are near Philly, people here eat soft pretzels for breakfast. My husband would not stop eating them. He liked the bit of garlic taste. The kids loved them too!
Just to note you can put them in a ziplock in freezer & pop them in the microwave. They kept well....wait till they are totally cooled first!

I'd been wanting to make pretzel bread for a long time, but couldn't find a recipe that didn't either intimidate me or look gross. Saw Jeff make this and was ready to try it right away. Took me a while to get back and leave the review--these were awesome! Jeff's show is turning out to be even better than I thought it would be when he won TNFNS. I love the diversity of things he makes, and all of it that I've tried has turned out great. Instead of the hot dogs, I chop up a rotisserie chicken and throw some jalapeno into a little 2% Velveeta, put it all on the bun with nothing else needed. This is our new favorite sandwich, and I get asked to make it more than any other. If you haven't tried pretzel bread on a sandwich, you're missing out! Fabulous, and a great, easy recipe. Sometimes I just make rolls and bake them with a little cheese inside--awesome!

What went wrong? The dough was perfectly raised until I placed it in the boiling soda water. They went flat. Any ideas what happened?

First of all, I love all of Jeff's episodes-- he really makes me laugh! And when I saw this episode, I knew my hubby and kids would LOVE this recipe-- and true to form, they did!! I am making these buns into pretzel sticks, dippers, whatever I can morph them into... I did do hot dogs for tonight's dinner and it was a hit. I even replaced 1 c. of white flour with wheat and it turned out great. Thanks Jeff for making the pretzel bun so accessible and easy! I'll be making these all the time-- having a stand mixer makes it a no-brainer. Only wish there was a pic so I can pin it on Pinterest... Keep 'em coming!
