We loved it! I did cut the sugar in the cake by half like other reviewers suggested and with a 3 and 5 year old in the house I thought I would try. I also ended up using a tbsp less butter due to supply which didn't seem to matter at all. When the kids tried the icing from the bowl they said "that's amazing!" and "I think it is the most amazing thing I have ever eaten!" The cake was amazing! It is a heavy cake with a look of banana bread. I am not sure how it would be in a 9x2 round cake pan though - I used a 9x13 glass pan for 40 min and it turned out perfect. The house smelled amazing also!

This is delicious! In my version, I leave the orange zest out and make it with a fresh blueberry cream cheese frosting. It has been quite popular amoung my friends!

This cake was easy and quick. I made muffins and reduced the sugar by half. Thanks Ina.

Very good! Second time making it I made a few changes. Only 1/2 the orange zest (per hubbies request, a bit less sugar, and half the oil switched out with apple sauce. I liked it better with these changes, but it was good the first time too! Oh and I made these into cupcakes both times. Only 35 mins baking.

OH NO :( This was so awful! I have never made anything from Ina that I did not like. Maybe her oven or flour is different, but my cake looked beautiful and raised high in the oven (which I baked for almost 1 hr! I even stuck a cake tester to be sure it was ready and it came out clean. I let it cool in the pan and it shrunk almost a third of its size. I flipped it out and cut it to taste but it was really dense and horrible. I don't know what happened.

It is very easy recipe to follow. The cake have risen while was in the oven; but when I took it out, it get flat. The texture was too dense and heavy. The flavor was good, but not impressive. I could not taste the orange or vanilla. My husband said he loved it, but I am not baking it again.

Wow!!! this recipe was so delicious!!! My husband loves banana bread. I watched the barefoot contessa prepare this cake on one of her episodes. So I tried it and let me tell you it was gone in one day. My husband thinks I'm a genus. I did change the frosting since I'm really not a fan of any cream cheese frosting. So I did a regular frosting with a twist butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and added jet marshmellow and OMG! Yumm

This was delicious! It is similar to banana bread, but I thought this cake was sweeter, moister, and a bit less dense than many of the breads I've had. The cream cheese frosting was also a welcome addition, and the recipe makes enough to frost the top of the cake as well as the sides. (On the show, Ina only iced the top of the cake, but I won't complain about extra icing! Like another reviewer, I did have to bake the cake longer than 50 minutes. If I didn't push a toothpick into the cake until it nearly disappeared, I wouldn't have noticed that it wasn't fully baked either!
