I used my own homemade pasta sauce and added about 3 oz. of grated Monterey jack cheese. It was very good and even better the next day for lunch.

Road tested this on 4 teens and got a big thumbs down. Very bland even when salted and not very cheesy. Surprised since it was called Cheesy Pasta.

This is delicious! I added some roasted, shredded chicken and also sauteed onion with the garlic and fennel. I had to put it under the broiler to get the top brown and bubbly.
I dirtied just about every dish in the house to make it, but it was definitely worth it!

The comments about bland are true. A few changes made this rockin'...
1 Skip the no-salt tomatoes unless dietary needs dictate; salt does equal taste! If you do need to watch the salt, add a little acid like red wine vinegar to perk up the flavors a bit.
2 Cottage cheese? Really? Use good quality ricotta cheese instead (this is "Italian," after all.
3 Add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp freshly ground anise seed to taste (key to many Italian red sauces
4 Add crushed red pepper to taste
The published recipe was followed by a friend for a potluck dinner. Everyone agreed on the taste being a bit bland. When I remade it with the tweaks above the baking dish was scraped clean. You can also add crumbled, cooked Italian sausage for additional flavor - sweet or hot.

I thought this was really good. I used Rao's marinara instead of making sauce to save a little time. Great meatless Monday dish since cottage cheese has a good amount of protein.
