I did everything EXACTLY as the instructions stated and used the correct ingredients and measurements. Cooked it three hours on low just as it stated. It was so scorched that it all had to be thrown out.
Maybe slow cookers cook at different temperatures even on low BUT it was a very costly mistake that might have been avoided if the recipe warned that it might not take three hours.

I tried your crock pot candy and it was a mess - what could possibly go wrong - in a crock pot? The nuts burned - the chocolate burned - and I believe three (3 hours is way too long - maybe I should not have just set it and forget it - 1-2 hours would probably been long enough...now what do I do with five (5 lbs. of chocolate goo...I know what you're thinkin' - I'm just gonna throw it out...what an expensive recipe - time and energy!

I made this as an Easter treat and it turned out fabulous! I also used the mini muffin cups and to some I placed a mini marshmallow for a surprise center, I placed sea salt on some and extra chopped peanuts on others....everyone really likes the sweet salty combo! After I made about 65 mini's I spread the rest in a jelly roll pan to make bark. I added Easter pastel marshmallows to this batch and swirled it. I agree you need to know your crock pot. I set my oven timer for 90 minutes and checked the mixture and lightly stirred. Continued to let it warm another 30 minutes and then turned it off until I was ready to place it in the pan. It is soooo tasty, everyone wants the recipe!!! Glad I made this!

I just made this for a staff mtg at my daughter's elementary school and I think it turned out very well. I put my crockpot on low for 1 1/2 hours and checked it every 30 minutes during that time. Then, I couldn't get into my kitchen to make the candy until later so I turned my crockpot to keep warm for about another 1 1/2 hours. The candy mixed up well and tasted fabulous!!! I used mini muffin cups and the recipe made 100 candies! Oh, I also couldn't find the German's chocolate so I used 4 oz of butterscotch chips b/c I already had them in my pantry. Yum!!!!

fast fast fast. I love it. I used a Hamilton Beach 6qt crockpot it took less time. I would suggest don't set and forget it. Keep an eye on the chocolate but don't stir till melted and I would use minnie cupcake paper. For the 1 star people you ought to give it another try. Every appliance different.

One of the fastest, easiest and best tasting treats I ever got off TV. Know your crockpot and maybe try half for the first time.
FANTASTIC!

After reading the other reviews, I decided to try the recipe anyway, but scaled down. I cut the ingredients to 1/3 the amount just in case it flopped. It came out fabulous!!! I did add a tsp of vanilla at the end. The thing is, you have to know your slow cooker. Trisha used a fancy Cuisinart with digital dials. I had a little crock pot which you plug in and it comes on (I used a crock pot liner also. The warming time took 45 min to an hour due to the smaller amount. She said you can walk away, but if you know your brand slow cooker gets hot quickly, it only takes a short time to melt. I mean a pot of hot water can melt chocolate in minutes. You do the math. Great candy. I'll make it again.

EASTER VERSION: I dyed coconut green and placed a bit in each cup before the chocolate. Then I put more green coconut on top and sprinkled with pastel candies. Turned out beautiful and very tasty!!!
