I'm not grooving on the tortellini. I'd prefer a couple of layers of cheesy grits to plaster the other ingredients together into one cohesive dish. Hot sauce at the table. 3 stars for a very cute idea.

Very dry and without flavor! Definately needs seasoning and "glue". I agree with others about the Southern White Gravy. Even a nice bechamel would be fine. I usually like making things from scratch, but occasionally will throw quality packaged things together, and this sounded interesting. But when I saw how dry everything was I just had to add something! And another thing; by the time you get all parts (using entirely too many skillets, pots and dishes in my opinion cooked and assembled, it's icy cold! And to put cold cheese on top of a dish and serve it-that's a big no-no in my opinion as well. That cheese must be melted down into the other ingredients to marry the flavors. A basically good idea that just didn't quite work.

Sounds fun but will make some white country gravy and some marinara to go with it and set it up like a breakfast bar. This will be perfect for our family--Italian and southern! And yeah, grits would be great in the bottom of the bowl :-

This is a really fun, attractive, and efficient way to serve breakfast. I think the critics are kind of missing the point...it's not so much a recipe as it is a serving idea. Just cook up your favorite breakfast dishes and then layer them in a bowl for serving. I just did hash browns, bacon, and cheesy scrambled eggs. Instead of one big bowl, everyone got their own bowl, customized just the was they liked it...with hot sauce and extra cheese at the table. Just for fun, I served it with chopsticks across the bowl, but no one had the patience to use them, so forks out was! We get your show super early Saturday morning on the west coast...so there was plenty of time to make this the same day!

I love Trish, but gosh golly, this is a disappointment of a recipe. First, there isn't really anything creative about putting some tater tots in the bottom of a bowl and piling other fat-laden foods on top. There isn't anything in this bowl that ties it all together. Some sauce? SOMETHING? And then you don't melt the cheese on top. It's just layer upon layer of gack......

We enjoyed this. I made it New Years Day so I had some time to do it. This is definitely a weekend dish because of the number of things you are cooking. It made a lot. I ate some the next night for dinner but added some salsa to it. It was delicious. This is a dish we will make when we are camping as well so we can share with our friends.

Bland, bland, bland. I tried this as shown. I then redid the recipe using some spice. I cooked the sausage first with half of a large onion, chopped, and siracha hot sauce, removed, cooked the bacon in the drippings and then the hash browns along with more onion and some hot sauce, salt and pepper.(I like them really crisp I put the hash browns into a casserole and then mixed the sausage and bacon (crumbled together and put on top. I placed the tortellini in next, scrambled the eggs with some half and half, some hot sauce, salt and pepper and some garlic powder and put them in next. Mixed a can of cream of mushroom soup with the cheese and added 1/2 can half and half and poured over the entire thing. Baked it at 350 for about 30 minutes and then placed some more cheese on top and baked until it started to turn slightly brown. Let sit 20 minutes and then served in portions.

4 servings? Maybe if they were football players! My husband and I ate this and barely made a dent in the bowl. We'll be eating it for days, but that's okay cuz it's delicious! My only complaint is all the dirty pans. If you have a warming drawer and can cook the ingredients in one pan, then keep them warm for assembly, that would work.

Yes to the gravy!!! I used a little less cheese than the recipe called for and really enjoyed it. Also, I prefer to make it with spicy sausage. It gives the entire dish a nice bite. Did anybody else see when Trisha featured this dish on her show? She had her niece Ashley assisting and she pulled a major kitchen101 nono. Ashley used the spoon that she was stirring the raw meat with to also stir the hash-browns! Cross Contamination oops there.
