I've always heard that a great marinara sauce had to cook forever before it developed its rich flavor. This excellent recipe proved that is not true. The sauce was an absolute hit with my family and the flavor was definitely fabulous enough to serve to company. I will definitely make this sauce next time I make my homemade lasagna. I will say that the only thing I will change for my own taste is the amount of oil. That was the only comment my family gave negative is that it seemed too oily. I think I could cut the oil in half and not sacrifice on flavor. I'll at least give it a try, but kudos to Chef Maroni for sharing this fabulous recipe with us.

This is a very good basic sauce, but I found it to be plain in flavor until I added some red pepper flakes and red wine to it. Then it tasted much more flavorful. And after adding the meatballs and letting them simmer for a few minutes, it was even better still.

My husband hates garlic. No matter what I add it to, he always has a comment to make. Tonight he told me it was VERY good and he couldn't taste too much garlic at all. When I showed him the recipe, he was amazed to see it had 12 cloves in it. I made this sauce for dinner tonight using the ingredients listed with out altering any. The only thing that I did different was to dice the garlic so it couldn't be picked out. The sauce was nice and thick and it stuck to the macaroni. For the past 30 + years, I've been making the basic sauce from the NY Times cookbook. I liked it very much but this recipe will be my choice for all future dishes calling for sauce. This recipe was quick, easy and delicious. A true keeper for me.

I am shocked by the negative reviews, though there are many picky eaters out there that like their own sauce, and noone elses. this sauce is great. its a basic sauce but screams with flavor. yes, lots of garlic is added, BUT it doesnt shout GARLIC, really. I am pretty picky with sauces myself. Marinara sauces, to me, are disgusting and cheap tasting. I've had lots of homemade sauces that had no flavor whatsoever, but the cook swears he/she simmers large cuts of meat in the sauce for a day for added flavor. In fact, most homemade sauces I've had have no flavor. I don't like mostly all jarred sauces either. This sauce is just simple, mouthwatering, flavorfull and the best I've had. You dont have to be a true Italian or cook and get a recipe from The Godfather or go to Italy and meet my Grandfathers family, no, keep it simple, this sauce is kick ass.

This sauce is so easy. The Spanish onions melt into the sauce and add sweetness to the flavor. This will now be my basic marinara sauce for all my recipes! I used 1-1/2 teaspoons of minced garlic from a jar because that is what I had on hand. The sauce came out wonderful.

This is a crowd pleaser!!! Everyone loves this...especially the cook...so easy! I have made the meatballs, too and everyone liked them. The last couple of times I browned mild Italian sausage and put in the sauce to simmer. Yummy!

Marinara sauce recipes are numerous but this was the easiest and most pleasant tasting marinara around. Light, yummy and great with the meatballs. Thanks again!
