This was horrible! I think the disposal had a hard time choking this one down!
As others have said the bananna ruined the sweet potatoes but the whole meal was a huge bust.

This quite possible is the worst recipe I have ever gotten from the Food Network. My kids and I couldn't even eat it. We took a few bites and dumped the whole thing. The banana in the sweet potatoes was sickening.
A TOTAL BUST - DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

We all loved this receipe. I almost didn't make it because of the reviews. I think the hang up was the bananna in the sweet potatoes. I used extra mashed regular potatoes. I would make it again.

This was so bad, the banana flavor distracted from the whole dish. I'm baffled that some reviewers change the recipe completely and omit the "secret" ingredient and then rate it 5 stars. THIS recipe is a stinker.

When I made this for my husband and I, I left out the banana and didn't melt cheese on top. I diced the carrot and onion instead of shredding as well and it came out fine. I also used wayyyy less oil than she calls for. We thought it was delicious!

First of all, there are two glaring errors in the recipe as written: first, as others have noted, they never tell you when to add the gravy (you add it to the meat before the peas, I guess, which seemed to work out ok also, how do you "grate" an onion that's been cut into "1 inch dice"? Very irritating. I just dropped the big onion chunks into the meat and it worked ok. The filling was WAY too watery though. Also, the prep and cook time are both wildly optimistic...this took me over an hour to make, and trashed my kitchen.

That said, the flavors are very good. Still, given the calorie count cited by others, I think I can find a healthier and more convenient way to use up ground turkey.

This was the most disgusting thing I have eaten in quite a while. The sweet potatoes with banana on the turkey was totally gross - and then the cheese on top of that? It made a huge pan and after all 3 of us had taken a helping and agreed it sucked - we threw the remainder out. What a waste of time and money!

First, two pounds of meat is just way too much. There wasn't enough sauce for the filing, so everything was dry and icky. But the thing that really made this recipe a loser was the banana in the sweet potatoes. All you can taste is banana, it overpowers everything else in the recipe. No one in my family finished their serving and i ended up throwing away a ton of food.

I've made this for two different dinner parties and everyone has loved it. It is my favorite Shepherd's Pie recipe ever because the sweet potatoes add so much flavor. Delicious!

I am watching my weight and when I entered this recipe into my calorie counter it came up to a whopping 954 calories per serving. Way too many! You can make this healthier by cutting the olive oil down to 1 tbsp when cooking the meat. Use 1 lb of turkey (not 2! and bump up the veggies. Use 1 tbsp of cornstarch to thicken the gravy instead of butter and flour. Cut the butter down to 2 tbsp and use it in the potatoes. And for heaven's sake, leave out that banana! It made the sweet potatoes taste weirdly of banana and was very distracting from the rest of the dish. Last but not least, cut the cheese down to one cup instead of two, you won't miss it! By making these simple changes, I was able to knock off over 400 calories per serving. Much better!
