I'm glad I had saved the actual episode on my DVR, because the recipe on the website forgets to tell you when to add the gravy to the meat & vegetables. It turns out to be a quite tasty & filling dish, so thumbs up for me!

Like others, I omitted the banana from the sweet potatoes as I don't care for bananas. I realized I didn't have any Worcestershire when I was ready to cook, so I actually put a little balsamic vinegar in the gravy and I think it really added something to the overall dish. (Worcestershire isn't very potent IMO I did not put an entire box of peas in and I only used 3 ribs of celery. I probably should have added another carrot. 4 stars because I think recipe needs tweaking as written.

I made this for my parents and I and they totally fell in love with it! My dad hate vegetables of all kinds but ate two huge helpings of this Sweet Potato Shepherd's Pie! Everything was lovely to look at and probably one of the healthiest things my family has eaten in a LONG time!

I made this last night. I really loved the idea of this dish as we love ground turkey, we love sweet potatos and we love shepherd's pie. I think the banana in this dish really was over-powering to the sweet potato.
The meat was seasoned great, the stew part was excellent.
When I make this again, I am going to skip the banana in the sweet potatoes and add brown sugar or just a little sour cream and keep them on the savory side.

I tried the Shepard's Pie, but I didn't add sweet potatoes, because, my family doesn't like them. I added regular potatoes, and of course I didn't add the banana. Everything else I kept in according to Racheal Rays recipe, and it still tasted delicious!

We were inspired by seeing the recipe on the recent Rachel Ray episode to try making Shepherd's Pie for the first time. My husband makes such good regular mashed potatoes that we just used white potatoes, but did the rest of Rachel's recipe. The result was delicious - we will definitely make it again!
One major note, however - the writeup online of the recipe is missing a major step! It says to cook up the sauce/gravy, but never says to add it to the meat and vegetable mixture prior to topping it with the potatoes. If you hadn't seen the tv show and were just trying to follow the recipe from the writeup you might mistakenly think the sauce went on top or something else. Mixing the sauce in is very important - makes the whole thing stay nice and moist!

This has nothing to do with using left overs. Who is going to run out and buy ground turkey, frozen peas and fresh sweet potatoes to do this when we all have all of that yummy stuff in the fridge waiting for someone to give us a creative idea on what to do with all of this cooked stuff.
