- For a normal sugar showpiece competition, with 5 competitors, approximately 250 lbs of sugar and a small amount of food coloring are the only ingredients used
- For a cake showpiece, the average cake weighs in at 100 lbs and the larger ones can top out at 200 lbs
- Fondant is a sugar paste used to cover cakes. It is made up of powdered sugar, gelatin and a little shortening
- The average professional cake maker can ice a cake in less than 1 minute and make a buttercream flower in less than 5 seconds
- A 3' high by 2' wide by 12" thick block of ice weighs approximately 300 lbs
- A good ice carver can take two 3' blocks of ice and turn them into a 15' ice piece. They can do this by placing the chunks of ice that they carve out of the blocks on top
