Emerils Background As a boy, Emeril Lagasse began making bread and pastry at a Portuguese bakery in his Fall River, Massachusetts neighborhood. He turned down a music scholarship to follow his culinary dream and worked his way through the Johnson and Wales University culinary program earning a doctorate. After school, Emeril trained in classic French cuisine in Paris and Lyons before returning to the states, where he worked in several fine restaurants in New York, Boston and Philadelphia. He then moved to New Orleans where he presided over Ella and Dick Brennan's legendary restaurant, Commander's Palace. Emeril opened Emerils Restaurant in 1990 to great praise from local and national food critics. EmerilsRestaurants Following the success of Emeril's Restaurant, Emeril opened NOLA in New Orleans' French Quarter in 1992, and Emeril's New Orleans Fish House at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, in 1995. In 1998, Emeril also reopened the classic Emeril's Delmonico in New Orleans. Emeril's Orlando at Universal Studios and Delmonico Steakhouse in Las Vegas quickly followed in 1999. In January 2002, Emeril's Tchoup Chop opened its doors in Orlando. In August 2003, Emeril's Atlanta opened its doors, followed by Emeril's Miami Beach in November. Emerils Books & TV Cooking Shows In addition to his restaurants are a series of books; his latest are There's a Chef in My Family and Emerils Pot Luck. Emeril also has two successful TV cooking shows on the Food Network. On Emeril Live, Emeril demonstrates gourmet cooking in front of a live audience. Essence of Emeril features Emeril on the set whipping up Cajun and Creole cuisine. |
