Today we're all trying to watch our health and eat better. Well now you can make it a little easier with the help of chef Juan-Carlos Cruz, The Calorie Commando. Juan-Carlos Cruz, host of Food Network's Calorie Commando and Weighing In, believes it's possible to eat heart-healthy without feeling deprived. On his show, he teaches viewers how to substitute unhealthy food cravings with smart alternatives. Juan-Carlos Cruz's Background Juan-Carlos Cruz graduated from the California Culinary Academy in 1993 and apprenticed at the Amillios Restaurant in San Francisco. He then became pastry chef at the Stanford Park Hotel and pastry sous chef at the Hotel Bel Air. Juan-Carlos was so successful at making pastries, he decided to begin his own Web site, Pastrydude.com, Los Angeles's premiere wedding cake destination, where his decadent creations are made to order. In addition to still running Pastrydude, Juan-Carlos teaches pastry, bread making, advanced cooking techniques and healthy cooking in the Los Angeles area. The Calorie Commando After losing more than 100 pounds, Juan-Carlos started Calorie Commando Catering to provide the best healthy cooking and healthy recipes in Los Angeles. His inspiration came after he took second place on the pilot series of Discovery Health Network's "Body Challenge." Since the show, he says he likes to practice what he preaches so he sticks to a strict diet and exercise regimen. He's now working on the long-awaited diet cookbooks to behind his two Food Network shows.
