Wolfgang Pucks Background Wolfgang Puck began his formal training at age 14 and then apprenticed at L'Oustau de Baumaniere in Provence. Wolfgang Puck came to the United States in 1973, and soon became chef/owner of Los Angeles' Ma Maison. He then left French cuisine to open Spago Hollywood on the Sunset Strip. Spago Hollywood earned many awards, including the prestigious James Beard Restaurant of the Year Award in 1994, before closing in 2001. Wolfgang and partner Barbara Lazaroff have opened numerous other restaurants, including the internationally acclaimed Chinois on Main in Santa Monica; Wolfgang's Postrio Restaurant in San Francisco's Prescott Hotel; Granita in Malibu; and Postrio in The Venetian Hotel and Trattoria del Lupo at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Vegas.
