Six Ways to Decorate with Candles

From pillar candles to tea lights, these inexpensive decorations can turn into the perfect holiday centerpiece.

Repurpose a Cake Stand

Repurpose a decorative cake stand by adding a cluster of your favorite scented candles in a bed of Epsom salts or sugar for a bright, snowlike effect. Round out your table with pine branches and ornaments.

Color with Cranberries

Cranberries aren’t just for eating! Surround gold candles with dried or candied cranberries in vases of varying heights to add color and dimension to your holiday display.

Set a Cozy Mood

Use a tray of scented candles to replace the typical side-table lamp with something a little cozier for the holidays. Make it even more rustic by swapping the table entirely for a large piece of wood.

Decorate with Tea Lights

For a more romantic, whimsical take on tea light candles, get creative with swirls, hearts or star shapes on tables or buffets. Long-lasting tea lights are best, to ensure that your artwork sticks around for the occasion.

Try Hanging Votives

Ornament-hanger stands also function as the perfect candle holders when you pair them with hanging terrarium globes. Experiment with different holiday beds for the candles, like crushed peppermint, cute sprinkles or even holly leaves (with battery-operated tea lights instead).

Bring in Festive Ornaments

Give an old basket new life by filling it with ornaments and turning it upside down to serve as a colorful and clever alternative for a candle stand.
