Esquire Food Editor Ryan D'Agostino describes Shady Glen's cheeseburger as the following: "bizarrely amazing and amazingly bizarre," as slices of cheese are placed way beyond the circle of the patty, creating wings of crispy cheese. What's more bizarre is not trying Shady Glen's famous ice cream.

Recently had a cheeseburger at Shady Glen. OMG, what a surprise it was. I was told that the cheese was fried but had no idea what it would be like (other than a previous experience with fried cheese sticks. Well, the cook/chef lays four slices of cheese on the burger so that a corner of each touches. Basically, it is four slices made to merge into one.
The top of the burger has melted cheese (as any cheeseburger would. The rest of the slices melt down the side of the burger and are friend on the griddle...themselves. Soooo, this part of the cheese ends up being really crispy. IT WAS SUPERB!!!
Now, I've got to find someplace in the midwest that would mimic this concoction!!!!
