As Rachael says on $40 a Day, Early Girl Eatery "serves up Southern fare with a gourmet flair." Her trip to North Carolina wasn't complete without Early Girl's locally sourced dishes including the Sauteed Local Mountain Trout topped with pecan butter. Take note -- vegans love the tofu scramble here.

We stopped for breakfast on our road trip and I wish I lived closer so I could eat more from their menu. The pulled pork breakfast bowl with scrambled eggs and bacon gravy was AMAZING! I dream of that breakfast still.

I give it a one star for the freshness of the fish. My boyfriend ordered the trout and I ordered the catfish. I was expecting for my side order of yams to be sweet but instead it had a sour taste to it. The collard greens were ok. We also ordered their fried green tomato appetizer. We did not like it at all but this seems to be a favorite of the locals. I think it had too much going on!
