Jake's Good Eats

Brothers Jake and Gordon Stegall converted an old gas station to the local favorite for twists on Southern cooking. Guy's favorite, blackened flounder with country ham grit cakes, was an out-of-bounds winner. But locals savor the super tasty venison quesadillas.

Country style/relaxed atmosphere, super-friendly staff and amazing food. Wine would've been wonderful with the meal but the sweet tea was just perfect. Biscuits/butter were served after the drinks. Apps: tried cornmeal dusted oysters and scallops. Oysters, spinach & tartar sauce were fantastic! The scallops were huge and seared to perfection. Would ask for extra sauce on the side next time. Entrees: blackened flounder/grit cake was wonderful!! Came with fresh veggies that were cooked perfectly. I had salmon. The maple/mustard sauce was so flavorful and the salmon was some of the best I've had. It's sushi grade so you can order to your liking... rare to well. Dessert: Pecan pie and peanut butter pies were both fantastic. Crust on the pecan pie was very light/flaky and filling was just sweet enough. PB pie was my favorite. Fantastic texture with choc chips & peanuts on top/throughout. It's almost 2 hours from home but I can't wait to make the drive back soon.

Great food!!! Great prices and wonderful service. This is how food is supposed to be prepared. They have a great family atmosphere and a new fan for life. I have been searching for a restaurant like this for years in Charlotte and finally discovered Jakes just down the street. Yum!
