Known to New Yorkers as a quintessential steakhouse, Smith & Wollensky has taken its comfortable steakhouse style to Boston, Chicago, Houston and even Las Vegas. Back in NYC, it's still all about the steak, but Anne Burrell says try the coconut cake because it's like "eating coconut cake air."

I've never had the Coconut Cake from NY S&W, but I have had the Columbus, Ohio version. I love it. Nonetheless, like Anne Burrell says it is not an overpowering coconut flavor. It is subtle and heavenly. It is not coated with chewy sugar coated shredded coconut but instead garnished with a sole tendril of natural coconut. The desserts are made in house daily so it should be moist. If it's not, let your server know.
I cannot wait to try the original NY version since I am overly smitten with Ohio's version. The Gigantic Chocolate Cake is a must have as well.

I have loved this dessert when I had it in NYC and Philadelphia. Very delicious.
I had it in the Houston (Westheimer location the cake was dry and very disappointing especially at 10 bucks a slice. It was our anniversary dinner and wanted something special. I watched Anne Burrell enjoying and loving it just as much as I did. I have been excited to get the opportunity to share her bliss but that cake did not measure up. Please Smith and Wollensky I hope you pass on the recipe and instructions so that we can continue to enjoy your wonderful cake.
