Self Portrait

Juba, a research chef from New Orleans, was the second finalist eliminated. He filled just a couple of pages in his journal and snapped a few photos, like this one, with his digital camera.

Star Journals

Each finalist was given a Food Network journal upon arrival in L.A. Juba scribbled a couple of prep lists, but his remained mostly blank.

A Contender in the Kitchen

Juba's cooking skills were obvious from day one. He was focused in the kitchen and the selection committee loved his dishes.

Best Breakfast

Bobby Flay called Juba out for having the best dish in the first Camera Challenge. Inspired by his Southern hometown, he made guanciale grits and eggs.

Teamwork

In the Star Challenge, Juba wasn't as comfortable on camera as his teammates, Jeff and Orchid.

Dish Planning

For the cooking portion of the challenge, Juba scribbled down a plan for his dish, a shrimp boil, and the group dish, a twist on Key lime pie.

Cooking at STK

Juba, Jeff and Orchid's team took home the win for this challenge, despite Juba's awkward presentation. His food was strong enough to carry him through — the judges loved it.

Hangin' at the Star House

Juba snapped this photo of a few of the guys relaxing back at the house after the STK Star Challenge.

Clowning Around

This clown doll became a running joke among the finalists. They'd hide it around the Star house — in the shower, in beds — to scare each other. Juba captured it in a (blurry) photo.

Thumbs Up

Juba snaps a close-up of Katy having fun off camera.

Dueling Cameras

Chris, looking exhausted after a long day, snaps a photo of Juba while Juba takes one of him.

Brainstorming

Juba jots down some ideas for future challenges, centering around a New Orleans theme. Perhaps he realized that his "Simple Complex" science angle was confusing everyone.

Pizza Problems

The finalists were all frantic after learning that someone would go home after the pizza challenge. Juba dropped his pizza dough on the floor and had to remake it.

Facing the Camera

Juba stumbled over words once again in his camera presentation. The judges still liked his pizza: "It's very Juba-esque, which is a good thing," said Bob.

Early Exit

Tough guy Vic even tears up a bit when Juba's elimination is announced. Juba took it in stride: "I get too nervous in front of the camera. Either you have it or you don't."
