Susie Spices It Up

Susie Jimenez, a caterer from Aspen, Colo., won the judges over with her soulful Mexican food and infectious smile. She made it all the way to the final two.

Star Journal

Upon arrival in L.A., the finalists were given Food Network journals. Susie filled two volumes with plans and reflections during her long run in the competition.

Latin Queen

On the very first page of her journal, Susie sketched a little picture that represented her POV: "Latin twist in your dishes!"

Embrace Your Roots

Early on in the competition, Susie wanted to prove her versatility, but the judges urged her to embrace her roots and stop running from what's "in your bones."

Note From a Friend

Fellow finalist and new friend Katy drew this picture for Susie with a little message: "Keep the spunk!"

Girl Bonding

The finalists were also given digital cameras to capture life in the Star house. Here, Susie and Katy kick back and relax.

Brainstorming

Susie's ideas for delicious Latin dishes were seemingly limitless. Here, she lists dozens of ingredients and potential dishes.

Inspired Pizza

For the pizza challenge, Susie didn't abandon her POV. She created a "Fiesta" pie with chorizo, ground beef, tomatoes, scallions, lemon zest, avocado wedges and hot sauce.

Defining Her POV

Here, Susie plays around with different show names, throwing out ideas like Mex It Up and A Touch of Spice.

Susie's Show

Susie ultimately settled on the last idea on the page, Spice It Up, and ran with it.

Practice Makes Perfect

As the competition intensified, Susie reflected on the mood in the house. She tried to stay focused and just keep her eye on the prize, practicing her camera presentations every day in the mirror.

Letting Loose

Lighthearted moments in the house were necessary to get through long weeks of competition. Here, Jyll and Susie share a laugh while a cameraman looks on.

Thinking of Dad

Throughout the competition, Susie often spoke of her late father: "He's proud of my achievements, the person he brought up."

A Day Off

On a day off from challenges, Susie, Justin D. and Whitney found time to get outside and take a hike in the beautiful Hollywood hills.

NYC, Baby

Susie made it to the final six and was psyched to move on to New York: "It's where my dreams will come true." Before leaving L.A., she penned a letter to her mom in Spanish.

Starstruck Moment

The first challenge in NYC brought a very special guest to the Food Network Kitchens: the Barefoot Contessa herself. Susie's expression says it all.

Last Four Standing

Susie kept two lists in her journal throughout the season — one of all of the Food Network stars that she met, and another of all of the finalists. She crossed off names after each elimination.

Today's Iron Chefs

The final four — Jeff, Vic, Mary Beth and Susie — got to compete head-to-head in Iron Chef-style battles.

A Big Win

Susie defeated Jeff in Battle Lobster and earned herself a spot in the finale. She got high praise from Giada: "You mastered your ingredient."

Life-Changing

Gearing up for the finale, Susie reflects on the entire experience in her journal. On the opposite page, she gives a shout-out to her husband back home.

Pilot

Susie survived the surprise finale Camera Challenge and went on to shoot a pilot of Spice It Up, directed by Guy Fieri.

So Close

Upon hearing Jeff's name as the winner, Susie shed a few tears but kept her head held high. "Coming into this competition, I found myself," she said. "I feel proud."
