Dave Cathey

Dave Cathey has been Food Editor for The Oklahoman since 2008. Since that time he’s written the award-winning Food Dude column and blog, hosted “Open Flame” for newsok.com and “Chefs Recipe Challenge.” Cathey has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from Oklahoma Christian University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central, where he won the Geoffrey Beene Award for outstanding thesis in his class. Cathey has worked at The Oklahoman since December of 1990 and has served as a writer/editor in sports, Assistant Metro Editor, Assistant City Editor and State Editor before taking over as Food Editor. He has written two books on food: A Culinary History of Pittsburg County: Little Italy, Choctaw Beer and Lamb Fries (2012) and Classic Restaurants of Oklahoma City (2016).
